Hi Andrew!
I saw a photo taken by D800 on a.net before yours As far as I remember it was somebody from Japan.
Enjoy your new camera!
PS. I dream about D700

Manny Gonzalez was one of the first people I know to get their hands on a D800. I'm a Canon guy (for now), but it certainly seems like a great camera. If I ever switch, I'd love to pair the D800 up with a 14-24. Here's a couple of his D800 shots from March:
I say my own lazyness because my whole trip to Seattle was almost entirely shot on the D800 and indeed I could have (should have) uploaded them sooner but I was tired and then got caught up doing other things when I got back to NY.
dated March 31st. But I had many more taken earlier that I uploaded later still LOL. Basically I got my camera on the Thursday after it was available for purchase in the US and it immediately went with me the next day to Seattle (Microsoft trip) and did most of the work at BFI/PAE/SEA. I guess the earliest image date-taken-wise accepted into the database tagged with the D800 in the remarks is
as it was the first plane I shot with it that produced an acceptable result. I should have gone out to BFI earlier that week since the light was MUCH better but, I had to work Seattle is also not that friendly with good wx :P
I'm sure some people are interested in seeing examples in the database of shots taken with the D800, however I'd much rather see FULL RES examples or at least shots that show off the power of the camera. For all I can tell the examples above could be taken with a Rebel.

Quoting andyhunt (Thread starter): Have to say that I am very happy with the performance of the D800
Lovely work as always Andrew.
Has the D3 gone or is the D800 a second body?
Are you shooting full 36MP NEF's? Do you see a significant difference in the images once they are downsized over the D3's? Is the Ultra Hi Res causing you any issue's, I read a report by a nature shooter who said the images were so detailed that it took him a while to get perfect pictures as the D800 showed up weaknesses in his technique. Does it make Heat Haze more of an issue at longer focal lengths?
Be interested to hear your thoughts.

Ryan, absolutely get your point... I have been asked that a lot in the past. I will try and see if I can dig up examples for you...
Jason, I know you asked Andy but I will give you my current situation. I had an D2Xs and a D3 ... Sold the great D2Xs because, well, it was old and it was noisy.
I replaced the D2Xs with the D800 as it has a 15MP crop and a 36MP Full Frame in one. I just wish Nikon puts the D800 chip in a pro body. I can;t stand the D800 body when I have been using pro bodies exclusively since the F4S :P
The D3 is just terrific alongside. It usually gets the 70-200mm VRI and the D800 the 200-400mm f/4. In some cases, I will put the 70-200mm f/2.8 VRI on the D3 and the 24-70mm on the D800 for close up shooting...
This year at SXM I plan to have the 14-24 on the D800 and the D3 with either the 24-120mm f/4 of the 70-200... not decided yet

Hi Manny, very interesting, and congratulations on your work too, I have seen a number of your images in the past, you have some lovely stuff. Is the DX crop on the D800 usable for our kind of shots? Sounds like it should be at 15MP, I would love to see a test image of that if you have taken one
I have a D300s as the second body at the moment behind the D3 and was thinking that it maybe time for it to go and be replaced by a D800

I had to get the battery grip for the D300s for the same reason, just feels better balanced in my hands, the battery grip for the D800 is extortionate though!

Would love to go there! And the 14-24mm is brilliant isn't it, took me a while to get good results with it but when I did I was delighted
