Hi folks!

Some time ago I've started the new album "Photogs I've learned from". http://www.airliners.net/search/photo.search?album=29132 Album is called to respect the guys whose arts I've used as the best practice for my own photography. Some of them I know personally, some of them just by photos on Anet. I think it could be a good idea to say also couple of good words to these photographers.

First I'd like to start from my colleagues – Leo Faerberg and Marina Lystcteva.

Marina and Leo are two of the leading aviation photogs in Russia. Lucky fate – they are not only my colleagues but also good friends and Leo even a partner in aviation photography. We have few good reporters in aviaphoto industry in Russia, however Leo and Marina are very creative in addition to their perfect reporting skills. It is difficult to describe what exactly I got from them – a lot of things looking at their work and arts. I can still get more.

I have to say few kind words on Sergey Ryabtsev. Sergey had granted me strong support while I was coming to the world of digital photography. As a professional designer he instructed me in many PS things. Another important thing he did (besides some over friends of mine) – he had ‘infected’ me by the virus of small aviation

Another Sergey – Tsvetkov. Walking history book of world's aviation history. Before I met him I thought I knew a lot about aviation history. After I’ve got I know almost nothing. But I became better since that time.

About 8 years ago I'd send a letter to one of these photogs (honestly I forgot who it was exactly) with the general question on night landing shots at the cockpit. I already had access to the cockpits in flight and had some limited experience of day shots. But night shots were a terra incognita for me and was a special part of my interest. I’d got an answer. Generally friendly however with the only substantive part that it is not easy thing and needs a lot of practice. It was not that I was waiting for. I was not offended as far as I always was staying on the position that photographer can have his secrets (that what I thought was the matter of such answer) and he is not obliged to tell you anything about his know-how. I just continued to look at new cockpit shots coming and was looking for ability to do the same.

With the years passed I finally made a lot of my own night shots like

You know… What I have to say now – the answer was right and I’d reply the same on general question about night cockpit photography. You have to care about many things like size and composition of cockpit, color and reflection power of the panels and walls, landing scheme, speed of the plane and many other trifles which in fact are very important if you a going to make a good shot. Just info on shutter speed and aperture will tell you nothing. So – easy and honest answer is – practice. But you always have to look on others works to understand there are you going. So many thanks to the guys above for their spectacular shots.

A2A photography

Planes have to fly. And you might agree with me that among flying planes’ shots air-to-air pictures are the most attractive. However it is not enough to have two planes and you with camera in one of them. As with cockpit shots you have to know what is the target of your flight. Have your shots inside your head before start; do not look for sudden lucks. A lot of important things with A2A you have to do, to come to effective result. Indeed in many cases flights are made not for photography but for other goals. But even then you have to try to predict future compositions. That’s the theory. In practice it is not very often when you can see professional A2A photography (which is obvious – not so many people fly with camera with the goal to make photos). Not so many of such shots on A.Net as well. But there are some guys you can look and learn from their photos. Sorry for counting not all of them but let me advise you the list of photogs I remember more then others:

Gavin’s collection is one of the greatest on A.Net from my perspective. If once I’ll come close to this result I’ll be completely happy. Photos say for author.

Polish school of aviation photography is one of very interesting and creative. I like to look at shots from Poland. Mariusz’s photography is outstanding even from there. Top photography and adornment for the site.

Originally I’m from Saint-Petersburg, my family lives there (I live at the planes

) and to be Peterburgian is kind of nationality. So when I’d started to upload on Anet in 2003 there were two leading photogs in the city – Dmitry Avdeev and Evgeny Pashin. Indeed they were my first benchmarks on the site. Now we are good friends but guys live in US and not have much staff from ULLI or other local airports. However their collections are still great and I always happy to see their links or fresh photos.

Finilizing the list (for the moment) I want to say special thanks to Andrey Bezmylov. Andrey is the poet of 'small aviation' - part of aviation unfairly not popular among photos viewrs. However general aviation is the cornerstone of aviation at all. I also want to say thank to Andrey for his great assistance in phtotraphy and communication. There are not so many tolerant and open minded people like Andrey I've met in my life.

Thats the list but it is not closed indeed. As you are photographer you have to learn all your life. I hope to fill the list with new names. Ande of couse the world of aviation photography is great and wide with a lot of hihg professionals and fascinating enthusiasts.

Its a bit pitty that many of names I've mentioned above are not very active on Anet or even have stopped to upload photos some time ago. Would be nice to have more their arts here.

Sorry if I missed anybody of guys with great photos - there were and still many great photogs here - I always happy top see interesting staff containing ideas and lovely views.

Thanks again and hope to learn from you and to see in different corners of the worls.

I would love to take pictures at Moscow's airports someday, hopefully before all the classic Soviet-era jets are gone. I grew up towards the end of the Cold War and never imagined it would be possible to do so.
