I've been waiting a long time to photograph the terminals of Frankfurt airport from above. It's not that easy to get the right ingredients:
- winds from the East (rare in FRA) so takeoff is from runways 07.
- a destination to the North so that takeoff is not from runway 18
- a seat on the left-hand side
- a window seat (difficult when flying standby on a full flight)
- good weather
- clean windows
So, here's the result:
January 3, 2002, FRA-DUB, Lufthansa Boeing 737-330 D-ABEK, seat 2A
Just after takeoff, view of the LH maintenance area
After takeoff we turned left to the North, and I shot a whole aerial of the snow-covered airport which unfortunately has been rejected so far, but I'll try again.
The flight continued to please me. We passed over Cologne/Bonn airport:

Staffan: good question, normally this would be the approach from the west before turning in for finals to runway 25, but these weren't in use that day.
Joe, thanks, I remember you have similar shots on your DL 763 takeoff to JFK.
