Hello, in one week I'll go for vacation in NYC and one of the day I'll spend some hour of spotting at JFK, its rather expensive to go with taxi to Every runway and check which one that's active for landings, so I can't do that. Flightradar24 is good, but whitout internet its rather hard, and if I'll get online it's actually many delays, bugs and so on at the airports in the US, so it's hard to see what runway that's in use.
So, as you might understand, I wonder what way that's the easiest to get to know what runway that's active at JFK, for landings. I also wonder how many times a day they use to change runway, or if anyone has a map of the runway with wind directions so I can see what runway thats active when the wind is that or this.
Is anyone planning to go out to JFK on Sunday 2 September? I think that's the day that Im planning going out to the airport.

You can call JFK ATIS on 718-995-8188 and find out what runways are active. As far as runway changes they do happen frequently at JFK and you don't always know what the configuration will be. You'll need a scanner to stay tuned to what is going on. You can check out photo locations on my website, the address is ...

As Art mentioned runway changes at JFK happen frequently, and one of the more frustrating changes is when they shoot simultaneous approaches to 13L and 22L. A/C arriving from Europe are usually vectored to 22L on this configuration. Consult the site mentioned by Art to see the locations, there is such a large group of JFK spotters that you're bound to see someone.
If they are shooting 31L/31R approaches, please note the A380s ALWAYS land on 31L due to obstacle clearance issues with 31R. However, I reccommend checking out 31R as this traffic seems to be more 'interesting'. Plus, at the location listed for 31R there is a Panera store where you can get a nice lunch.
I was just there last weekend so unfortunately won't be able to make it. Hope you have a great time!

If I wasn't working this Sunday , I would be more than happy to show you the different plane spotting sites. If you are planning to go in the morning Bayswater State Parkway in Bayswater in my opinion is the best usually since that's when the 4L4R departures and arrivals go on with some 31L activity going on as well. Then after 12:30ish or maybe earlier it's likely they will make use of 22L 22R for arrivals which means the Mounds would be the spot to go to. However it kind of blows sometimes because like Megatop412 said they tend to sometimes use both 22 and 13L which has no decent area to shoot any pictures in my opinion. Maybe if you are free Tuesday afternoon I can work something out with you.

Weather for this Sunday @JFK is moderate overcast with southeast winds due to the proximity of TS Isaac west of the area. 13L and 22L will be favored. Because this TS is extra tropical in nature I wouldn't rule out breaks of sun. Should be an OK day...
