Hey
I'm going to try and go to KSEA this Saturday and it looks like it might be a 34 or 16 kind of day and I was wondering any recommendations as far as Camera settings for a Canon XSI and Where the better spots were? I was also thinking about going to the parking garage and wasn't sure if what I had was alright for there? Any Thoughts?

If arrivals are on the 34s (northbound), SEA in the morning is the pits, because there just aren't very many good spots for that, and with three active runways, what you want might require anywhere from 100mm to 500mm. But if it's the 16s (southbound) in use for arrivals, the water tower is a great spot - a peaceful public park that is sometimes frequented by other spotters, and you can walk to other locations nearby from there. If they are departing on the 16s, the afternoon is also good at south 188th for departures, but that is a busy and rather unpleasant road.

XCoaster - Email me at WCLFYR2009@gmail.com and we can exchange information and maybe we can meet up and spot if you are interested.
I think all Heavies are on 16L and most of the other stuff is on 16C and R and so I'm going to listen to the ATC in the morning and see what runways they are using
My 55-250 has been pretty good to me on 34 and 16's, I wish I had a longer lens and ladder for 3R!

All,
I have been thinking about a spotting visit to SEA. Seeing your posts, I am thinking to do it this Saturday so that I won't be the only one there.

Seriously? You are from SEA and spreading this nonsense? Plenty of spots for 34s in the morning. You have a park and golf course. You don't need more than 300mm for both locations.

Hi WCFLYR,
Yes, lots and lots of AS 737s and Q400s. Southwest flies 800s to PDX, but not sure about SEA. I am still hoping to make it to SEA this Saturday.

Everytime I go to KSEA I call the Airport Duty Manager and let them know who what's going on and my presence there and so if they get a call about me they will have a heads up, They've just said it was alright and make sure to stay out of the road, Last time I was there some cop pulled up cause I was sitting down, He was a dick about it but whatever...
nmraja - Inbox me at wcflyr2009@gmail.com and I can give you my info for Saturday!

Any Canon XSI Users might be able to suggestion what kind of settings I should set mine on Saturday? Looks like it's going to be sunny but again it's Seattle it might be cloudy....

I never call them, I have only had a cop stop once in 100 trips there. And he was really nice!

Yes. Yes I am. I've got photos at SEA from just about every public location there is. You don't have to take my advice, but rest assured - I'm telling you the truth. In the morning, 34 arrivals are difficult while 16 arrivals are a breeze.
Difficult, but not impossible. Yeah, you can go to the golf course, it's true. But the trees are not your friends - and they're bigger than ever. Some places which used to be open are now obstructed. The light isn't so easy either, since it is coming from behind and to the left when you are watching an aircraft approach on 34R. There is no public park in the approach path for the 34s, though you can go to South 188th. But not for 34R, because you'll have trees or a huge fence in your face.
This is a 16L departure right near the golf course:

28 matai: I've been going going on the little grassy hill where the on-ramp from 188th west to 509 North is. Great spot for 34L and 34C, 34R is kinda far away.
