Hello everybody,
this is to everybody out there in IAD. I will be in IAD this weekend with the 748 and I would love to have a picture of myself arriving or departing with that magnificant bird.
I am arriving on Friday with LH418 and departing on Saturday with LH419.
Would be amazing if anybody can take a picture of me like this:

wilco737,
I would be more than happy to get some approach shots of you flying into Dulles tomorrow, but unfortunately I'm going to be stuck in the office all day. If you are going to start flying the -8 into Dulles, just give me a shout when you are on the schedule and I will try to sneak out early or go out on the weekend to snap some approach shots.
PS- I might try to go out Saturday evening and attempt to get a few night pictures of you pushing back etc, but I'm just an amateur and don't know what the hell I'm doing when it comes to long exposure shots.
Keep me posted and I will do all that I can to help.
Thank you very much. I really appreciate that you try to get a picture of me. No matter the quality, I love having pictures of me when I am on controls and since this is my first B747-8i flight, it is special for me.

wilco737,
I'm going to try to get a few pictures tomorrow night when y'all push back and taxi out. So hopefully tomorrow night I can come through with some clear and sharp pictures with you at the helm! Also, over the last few months I have captured LH's 747-8 arriving into Dulles and departing; but due to only one picture per a cycle allowed on A.net, I have some pictures that I thought you might want and could share with your co-workers who get to fly the 747-8 that were never uploaded. They just sit in a folder and I thought someone like you would appreciate them a lot more than me.
Hope you had a great time flying your future bird!

I made my maiden spotting adventure to IAD this past Thursday. Weather was flawless, afternoon light was perfect. Problem is the heavies were all landing on 19C from the north. I couldn't find an appropriate spotting location for that runway. I wound up shooting a lot of smaller planes landing 19L from the Purple long term parking lot. I did get to see the Lufthansa 748 land....just couldn't shoot it. It is a spectacular aircraft, you have a lot to be proud of getting to fly it.

wilco737,
I went out last night to attempt some night shots of you at the controls. I guess I had a little bit of luck on my side, but not much. Before your departure, most of the heavies were departing on 1R, so I was anticipating you guys would too, but I noticed when you started to push back, your tail was going towards 1R. The 30 departure let me get a clear side shot of you at the controls, although I thought the lighting conditions would of been a little better. I also took a few pictures of some pre-push back festivities, ie baggage carts, etc. I attempted to edit the pictures the best I could, but I really don't know how to edit the night shots and use photoshop to its max. If you want me to send you the raw files, I will be more than happy to.
I also asked around if anyone was out at Dulles when you flew in on Friday and captured your arrival, there was one gentleman who took a couple pictures. Here is the link to his flickr page. http://www.flickr.com/photos/gobez/8234093702/in/photostream/
Hope you had a great time flying the 747-8 over the last few days!

And you did great. Thanks.

Yes, that is a little annoying in IAD. You ask delivery for the departure runway, they tell you 1R, so you prepare for 1R and then when calling for pushback: expect 30. Why did we ask in the first place? But as we know that this happens often in IAD (or other airports) we prepared several runways, so only minor changes in the FMS.

I checked it out. Great shots. Thanks for that link.

If the opportunity arrises in the near future, just give me a shout and I will do my best to sneak out of the office and get some arrival or departure shots!

I will do that for sure. But chances are low at the moment as the IAD flights are used for the introduction flights for new crews. So hard to bid for them at the moment. What a shame, I like being in IAD.
but I will let you know when I come back.
