I am currently shooting with a Nikon D3200 and a 55-200mm VR. I am however finding that the lens is a bit short so I am looking at the Sigma 70-300 F4-5.6 DG Macro lens. Would this be a fair upgrade or should I perhaps look at selling my 200mm and going for the Nikkor 70-300? At the moment I'm quite constrained budget wise, hence the attraction of the Sigma lens...

The 70-300mmVR Nikkor is a fantastic value. I've had mine over 5 years now and it has produced thousands of sharp, contrasty shots. A bit soft from 280-300mm but for that zoom range I'll take it. I find myself needing 300mm WAY more than I need 55mm. You can always bring the 18-55 along that came with your D3200 if you need that focal length. I would trade in the 55-200 to help finance the 70-300mm, you won't be sorry.
