Hi All,

I have received an image purchase request for a trade show backdrop, It is an unusual request in my practice, I have sold photos for magazines, calendars, books, but never for anything like this.

Any ideas how much I should charge for the image?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How big is the booth?...10 foot, 20? and also the product and what is the product?, how successful is it?...Will it be part of printed media that supports their presence at the trade show...Is the show a one day affair or three and is it local. Need to know this info before I would give you an answer. Sounds like a fabric print which gets stretched onto a booth frame. If that is the case, and the image is a full bleed (image running off the edges it would probably be 7 feet high x 9 feet wide). Depending on the material printed on and the actual size, the printing can cost $700.00-$1200.00. Consider the frame or booth structure itself probably cost $1400.00-$8000.00 depending where it was manufactured, including cases. The floor space would typically cost about $500.00-$3000.00 per 10' x 10' of floor space depending on the show,, where the show is and who sponsors the show. Handout printed collateral, add another $500.00- $1500.00. Add in travel expenses and overnight hotel expenses if that is the case. now that the client has spent all this $$ to display your image to support his product...What value would you say your work is worth?.........It is a tough one but to attend a show as a vendor is for one reason only...to network a product. Your art is the primary object that will command attention to their booth. You also have to find out if your image will be one of many others or the dominant image. Having said all the above, I would affix a $750.00 minimum- $1850.00 Maximum. They might try and trivialize the photo value but without attention getting graphics...a booth is worthless. Sorry for all the confusing data but that is the animal. One more note...The NBAA annual international Business Aircraft Trade Show, Gulfstream used to spend $1,000,000.00/day on local PR in the host city where the event would take place. Vendors shell out a lot of dough for trade shows...get some of it. Good luck

Thanks, Gerard, for the extensive post! Seems like there is a lot too look into.

Come up with a figure you are happy with...that is the bottom line...I gave you all that "stuff" just to give you a barometer of the additional expenses clients are involved with in a booth, so it would give you more perspective on pricing. Good luck on it and post results...negotiate the price...make your case and do it with a smile...g
