I was just having a wander round A.Net and revisted the "Most Popular Photos" section - not surprisingly, it was much the same as last time I looked and the time before that. Clearly, great pictures which have been here for a while will have accumulated a lot of hits which makes it unlikely they will ever be displaced by new additions no matter how good (and there have been some great ones recently).
I would have thought it would be possible to come up with some formula which looked at the hit rate over a set period of time to give a better indication of the shots people like best. I think that such an algorithm would
a) give a better representation of the material on A.Net
b) be more interesting for repeat visitors

I think thats a very good idea. May be it could be divided into two sections:
a.) All time favorites
b.) Most popular fotos in the last x days
ad a.) It would provide a good overlook for first time visitors
ad b.) Nice overview for repeat visitors.

I am in agreeance as well, the Best Photos section does suffer from a lack of new additions. While I am aware that "great" shots don't get added every five minutes I do think that the abovementioned idea does have some credibility.
I almost didn't take this photo because of the lighting conditions at the time. When it turned out decent, I still didn't like it for some reason. I almost didn't submit it either! I didn't think anybody wanted to see it. Then it turned out to be my most popular pic. It's weird how things work out that way...

My most popular shot is a not so good cockpit shot - this had me puzzled for a while until I realised that a.net is a great reference source for all those flight simmers who model new aircraft.
Thinking further on the "popular shot" idea, I wonder if it would make sense to add the most popular shot of the month to the great shots gallery? I have no problem with Johan's selections (most of the time), but it would be nice to add the view of the people as well!
