Dear all, and especially the LIS spotters,

From next Tuesday I will be in LIS for a few days. I will have a car and since I'm an omnivore, I'll be at LPPT but also Sintra and Cascais. No photography is possible at Montijo I suppose.

The spotting information about LPPT seems to be clear enough, but are there any recent developments that I should be aware of? And is there any internet forum that the local spotters use for information about special flights?

When visiting the museum at Sintra, is it possible, and allowed, to photograph the Epsilon flightline or operations?

Thanks,

Peter

Hi!

When I was at LIS last summer, everything was as it used to be...In the morning I was next to 2a circular to take photos of planes on approach to RWY 03, some construction work was going on there, but I don't think that has changed anything. In the evening I was at the well-known lineup position near the new terminal/Cargo building.

Information on interesting movements can be found in the forum of http://www.portugalspotters.org. A registration is necessary to be able to read the forums.

Have a great time in Lisbon!

Moritz

Back from LIS, I'll give some feedback for future reference. Unfortunately the weather was not so kind, with quite a bit of rain, but there were some sunny spells.

With a strong southern wind, Rwy 21 was in use throughout my stay, so I didn't use the morning spot along the 2a Circular. The morning spot near the military base, Figo Maduro, was unusable as far as I'm concerned, with no holes found in the high fence and no way to beat it. Near the Rwy 21 threshold on the morning side is a good spot on a dirt road called Rua B. It is reached via a bridge over the CRIL highway. The spot is excellent for landings but not so good for lineups due to another high fence.

The LIS spots on the afternoon side, spots C,D E and F at planemad.com, are all fine and desribed there. A new major road is being built along the airport perimeter, but these nice lofty spots are not affected.

The museum at Sintra is rather nice, and if Epsilons are on the flightline it's possible to get a decent shot with a long lens from the museum area. If they're flying, nice shots should be possible.

Cascais is not very accessible for a GA airport, and I didn't get any decent shots there.

If you fancy a short trip out of the city, the huge Vasco da Gama bridge takes you from LIS across the Tagus estuary (free in this direction). Head north along the IC3/N118 and you'll find an A-7 preserved at Campo de Tiro de Alcochete.

You can return via the N10 and another Tagus bridge (free), taking in another branch of the Museo do Ar at Alverca. It's open only on Mondays, but some of the outside aircraft can be photographed well even if it's closed, if you can deal with the fence. The base is very close to Alverca railway station.
