OM-D Or 70D?

OK here's the situation. I currently have a Canon 5D3 and an Olympus OM-D EM-5. Fairly comprehensive lens set for both.

I have on order a Canon 70D to give me a back-up for my Canon kit and to take advantage of the new video capabilities. So now Olympus introduce the OM-D EM-1. A little more expensive, but that's not an issue.

Now I'm wondering which way to go. The obvious down side of the Canon system is size and weight, as well as the cost of decent glass. The down side of the EM-5 is poor continous focus, something the new EM-1 is supposed to address with a combined contrast & phase detect sensor.

In terms of image quality, the 5D3 is generally better than the EM-5, esp at high ISO ... but I'm not a big high ISO shooter. I think, again at lower ISOs, the EM-5 is better than my old 7D, so I expect the EM-1 to match or beat the 70D.
One area the EM-5 excels in is B&W - looks better than any other digital camera I've used, bar none,

On the face of it, the EM-1 is a much better body (essentially pro-spec), and I shoot in harsh environments. Fast glass for m4/3 is much more attainable (and manageable!) than Canon equivalents, and the EM-1 is able to use old Olympus glass designed for the original 4/3 system ... some of the best glass ever made IMHO.

There are loads of pros and cons - Canon in-lens IS is brilliant on longer lenses, but the in body IS of the OMD is also very impressive and works with any lens.

Which ever way I go, I'll still keep the "other" system for its special capabilities (5D for occassional high ISO work and studio stuff, OM-D for travel and carry-anywhere-ability), but probably trade off lenses of one system or the other.

So do I remain a Canon man, or has the time come to make Olympus my primary system?

Anyone thinking along similar lines? Thoughts on the relative pros and cons (essentially it comes down to EM-1 vs 70D). No point telling me Nikon/Sony etc... is the way to go - lens investment alone precludes that. Has, with the EM-1, m43 finally come of age?

Cheers,

Colin

Better than the 5D3 in harsh envornments? It sounds like it comes down to a personal decision more than anything. I would stick with Canon, but that's because I'm used to carry a lot around, I shoot in dark conditions and I've never owned a m4/3 for comparison's sake. So a rather biased viewpoint on my behalf

It's all about the destination AND the journey.

On paper it would appear so. And of course there is the fact that samller gear is easier (or at least less expensive) to protect.

The 5D3 is pretty good, but far from perfect, as I have learned to my cost!

Probably - but I think its an interesting problem ... not dissimilar to the "is digital good enough to replace film" issue of some years back.

Cheers,

Colin
