PHOTO SCREENER

Thank Nick N for bringing this FB page to my attention, one of my pictures was posted on this account. https://www.facebook.com/AviationFanPage/photos_stream
I have never been contacted by anyone about re-posting my picture on this FB account, so I believe clearly this is an infringement of my copyright. There are hundreds of pictures on this account, and many are from Airliners.net, some might be your work. I wonder what we can do about this, thanks!

Sadly, not much more than report it to Facebook.

I reported a page for about 18 infringements over the past couple of weeks, and while facebook does take the offending images down within a week or so of a report going in, it's sort of mystifying that they allow repeat offenders to keep posting.

Cheers
Angad

I called out the guy behind this page publicly a few weeks back and he blocked me. This particular page has been reported here on multiple occasions in the past year, yet the page is still up.

There is so much copyright infringement on Facebook that eventually it's going to have legal ramifications for them. They make it very difficult to report copyright infringement unless it is your copyright that is being infringed upon. In some cases, the infringement is solely to scam people and hijack their accounts.

Yeah, this always struck me as a bit thick.

Facebook is pretty bad regarding photo theft. The photographer itself needs to report it to facebook and then facebook only removes the picture and that's it. Facebook doesn't seem to care and people just continue doing it. So not much we can do about it.
It really sucks. Or you can call your lawyer straight away and sue them. Maybe sooner or later it will stop. But that is a rather drastic move.

In the cases of photos lifted from here or another aviation site, you would think that a link to the photo here would suffice since the date it was taken and was added to the database is included within the photo info. But there are some photographers who upload to multiple sites, so the same photo may be in the database of other competing sites. If the person who pilfered the photo crops the copyright bar out, there's no way to determine what site it may have come from.

These pages will keep popping up because some people will always see the Internet as a "free" library and anything posted on the Internet is free for the taking, copyrights be damned. Some seem to think that leaving the copyright bar on the photo or including the photographer's name in the post (if they're cropping the copyright bar out) makes it alright.

There's a simple solution..... BOMB the website like I just did.

Copy this text....
STOLEN PHOTOS.... COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT.... UNAUTHORIZED USAGE.... Why does Facebook allow pages with nothing but stolen images from other copyrighted websites?

Now paste, paste, paste, paste, paste as many times as you feel like. If enough photographers do this to the page, it will both get the message to the idiot stealing the photos, and sooner or later even FB will get involved. Make the "page" unuseable to people.

Then it takes about 10 minutes and your posts are deleted and you are blocked from the site.

And the others don't care as they think they do it legally and they think what they do is perfectly fine.

I had a nice chat with that pages owner yesterday, but he deleted powwwiii's image and all of my text. He more or less felt that because he didn't crop off the bottom airliners.net bar, what he was doing was fine. Sadly, idiots like that guy are all over the place, but I figure the more complaints that roll in, the better.

I guess he wants to do it right, according to a message he will remove all photos. I have informed him that the proper way to share images from Airliners.net on FB is by using a link that takes the visitor to the full size on Airliners.net

He obviously didn't read the message I sent him a few weeks prior in which I included a link to the photo usage policy.

Here is another website:

https://www.facebook.com/pages/it-is-Not-Easy-to-Become-a-Pilot/344717982240299

They do it as well. There was my picture as well, I commented on it that it would be mine and that they are doing illegal stuff, now the picture was removed.

I don't know if they removed it or facebook did. I flagged the picture.

So check out if your pictures are among it.
