Hi all,

according to a number of sources, one of the best spotting locations in Germany, the railways station observation deck at the airport of Dusseldorf will be closed on weekdays in future. The terrace will be opened on Sundays from 10am only. This change of opening hours will become effective on the 4th of November.

Although there hasn't been an official statement yet, the scenario is - unfortunately - very likely.

It basically means that DUS loses one of its best (if not the best) spotting location(s).

Well that's a real shame. I can't see the point in opening it for just one day in seven - surely it would be better to simply shut it for good? I hope you local guys can get some sort of petition going - I'm sure lots of us 'foreigners' would fight for your cause!

That would be very sad, I often go there (not a long drive at 200 km/h) and the spotting opportunities are really good if not one of the best in the world. What would the problem be here, to much costs ? not enough visitors ? if so why not raise the price a bit ? I would happily pay 5 euro's or maybe even more.

I will probably go there next Saturday or Sunday, maybe I can get some info from the staff there (if my German is good enough)

Robbie.

The airport confirmed the rumors today.

New opening hours of the terraces during the winter season:

Terminal B observation deck: 10am - 7pm (7 days)
Railway station: 10am - 7pm (Sun and public holidays)

Quite unattractive, also with regards to the possibility of taking nightshots from the terminal terrace which is no affected by the early closure at 7pm (used to be 8pm).

The airport mentions economic reasons for the changed opening hours. I doubt a petition for more attractive opening hours will be successful. Right now we can only hope for better opening hours during the summer season.
