Does anyone know of any good spots to spot/photograph at JFK and or Newark? I'd appreciate any info. Thanks very much!

I live 2 minutes from EWR and work there also, but I can't think of any spot where you can spot/photograph without catching some undue attention from the PA or the various security on watch. I'm contemplating contacting the PA or airport management to see if I can get "permission" or a heads up as I have had run ins before.

Milldoh,
Thanks. I think I will try that - probably next week or the one after.

Anyway, to answer the original question there are quite a few at EWR:
-you have the south area perimeter (near FedEx, employee parking lot, etc).
-at the other end there is the area around parking lot G.
-there is a new multi-level parking garage in the north area that should be a good spot to photograph (not sure if it's open yet).
-there is the IKEA parking lot across from the turnpike.
-many places within the terminals if you don't mind shooting through glass.
-there is a great spot on a grassy knoll along a road that goes to lot H where you can get great shots of 11/29 dep/arr - however I wouldn't recommend it if your wrists chafe easily.
Again, you'll probably attract some undue attention.

I go spotting there about twice a month and I always stand in the KidsWorld parking lot. I never had a problem with cops pushing you away. There is just one security car that rides around the parking lot once in a blue moon. You just hide the camera. I get great shots of landings on 4. Don't go on windy days becuase when ever I go there is nothing doing. It is usually a great place to see planes land though. It is also cops safe atleast when I go in the afternoon.

At JFK, there is a COSTCO right on the 4 approach. If you don't believe the view from the ground up... I saw it from a 744 landing and basically said this "DAMN!!! He was right... thats one helluva place to spot).
I was yelled at by the cops at EWR while at IKEA...
In August I got some decent shots walking the JFK perimeter, especially between T3 and 4, and in a few terminals before the gates.

For JFK I would try Howard Beahc, It's a nice little neighbourhood and I THINK you can get kind of close shots of Departing Traffic from 31L, also in the summer times, you can also get traffic landing on rwy 13L/R. Give it a try. I'll try to catch the concorde this weekend.

Here's the Costco on the JFK 31R approach. As you may be able to tell from this pic, aircraft coming in are rather high in the sky, as you are quite a long way from the runway threshold. They're also fairly distant - a 747 will require 200mm, and for Jetblue A320s you'd better have a 400mm lens!

The FedEx builiding and US Customs near RWY 31R at JFK. Probably now restricted. I've been to both of these spots and never been hassled by anyone. This was last spring.

FedEx builiding and US Customs! Don't even think!
Even spot at Costco parking lot is not safe, two times
cops search my car, and told me to leave from that area!
