Hey,

Does anyone know if you can spot the aircraft landing on Runway 25R in Brussels? I know all the spotting places in Brussels, but I never found that one on R 25R. Does it exist?

Frederic

Well, untill a couple of years ago there used to be an excellent place very close to the fence of the airport (and REAL close to taxiway W4!!) If a heavy had to take off from RWY 25R they have to use W4 in most cases, so the aircraft passed by really close.

Also, you could see the landing aircraft like 5 seconds or so before the landed.

But, that's when BIAC decided to build a HUGE concrete wall at this very same place (at the Steenokkerzeel main square, to the right and follow the road 'till the end), in order to reduce noise and so.

So, I don't know where you will have to go nowadays. Sometimes, when I drive by, I see spotters now and then just next to the road, looking to the fence and stuff..

Maybe you should just go there, park your car and look for yourself. Try to find a good spot somewhere...And if you find one, let me know, OK?

Thanks for answering Ivan!!!

I also was there before they were building that wall, but I don't think it is possible to see the aircrafts there on 25R. I will ask it to some friends, when I know more I will let you know.

So, except for the spot at the end of RWY 25L, the best places to spot aircraft at BRU are cemetaries? LOL

Ivan,

Can I make up out what you say that you don't know the spotting places on R 07L and R02??

Euh...I guess so. I've already heard of the place close to RWY 07L but I haven't been there yet.

I just think that one will only see the belly of the aircraft, or am I sooooo wrong?

Anyhow, would anybody of you like to be so kind to summarize all known (and good) place to photograph aircraft at BRU? I'm thinking of increasing my activity and move to the next level: buying myself a digital SLR, style Fuji S1, Canon D30, Sony F707 or Canon Pro90. I'm tired of my old Canon AE-1 and I want to buy some new equipment.

If you'd like, you can always mail me a list of spotting places. That way, I can add this list to my website (of course you will be given credits)

Here are some:

07R/25L
All around the end of the runway by the watertower, both sides.
The bank behind the refugee camp.
The big 'pile' of sand behind the fire station (>300mm lense needed for full frames)
Top of 'Frontpark 1', good view of the apron, C terminal and the ends of runway 25L and 20.

02/20
If 02 is in use the road outside the IKEA depot can give some photo opportunities, also the top of 'Frontpark 2' can give some good shots in the late afternoon.
There should be a spot just beside the runway too, haven't been there myself but here is an example:

If 20 is in use, well... not really any good spots exept various positions along the road going through Stenokkerzeel (sp?), alomost by the intersection with the road to Malsbroek.

07L/25R
For landings, some cool shots can be made from various spots along the road throught Stenokkerzeel.
The top of 'Frontpark 2' has a view over the runway, but a long lense is needed.
The end of 25R, the big grass bank, the a/c take off right over you, and there is a view over the cargo area too. Moving off towards the south from here can give some descent shots, for example from the bridge just by the Sabena head office (long lense needed).

That's about what I can think of..

Just in addition to what Staffan said :
If rwy 20 is in use (like last sunday), the Keistraat in Steenokkerzeel is good for approach shots.
If rwy 02 is in use : excellent spot in the morning : go about 400 meter along the fence from the 'Zeven Tommen' road, in the evening : cemetery of Zaventem Big grin
You can also take the train Brussels-Leuven for 02 approach shots, but timing can be a problem... Big grin
