Hi all,
I have booked an early morning flight from Stansted in June and I will be up there very early for some spotting. Can anybody recommend some decent places to get the regs of planes scattered around the airfield, without leaving the terminal please?
Secondly,I want to go to LCY for the day to catch all the small regional stuff I never see at LHR  Smile I guess the rushes there are from around 7 am till 10 am and then about 5 pm till about 8 pm.Can anybody suggest some good places for spotting at LCY please?Do they have a spotters deck there?I dont have a camera yet so Ill stay in the same place all day preferably.
Thanks,Alex

Alex,

For LCY the best place is north of the dock here you can wander about without any trouble looking over to the ramp. No fences to get in the way just dont fall in the dock! Photography is not too good as its south facing but if its cloudy then its okay, also helps if there on westerlies for some nice rotation shots. Lunchtime is also pretty busy between 12.30-14.00.

Cheers

Paul

Alex it is the Royal Albert Station. When you come out of it if you stand with the airport in front of you, then you need to go left walk for about 300 yards along the road and there is an open terrace which leads on to a walkway by the dock. No need to go over the bridge!

Cheers

Paul

LCY is also okay from the south (terminal) side of the dock if you have a good zoom lens. Either train to Silvertown or the 473 bus from Royal Albert to the terminal every 12 minutes.

The main morning peak is from around 8 am to 9 30. There is then a steady flow until early afternoon when it gets quiet. Evenings start up again around 6 pm. Some airlines (VLM, Augsburg, CityJet) seem to miss out on the morning peak but come in between 10 - 12 am.
