I have got the opportunity to buy a HP Photosmart S20. This is second hand, the scanner has been used for about one and a half year and would have to pay about 250 USD for it.

Is there any parts in this machine that can have been damaged during this time? Will this cause bad scans or something like that? Is it a bad choise to buy it second hand?

Also, is this scanner overall a good scanner? Anyone that has a photo here at a.net that is scanned with this machine?

Best regards,
Gustaf

Price seems to be rather high considering it's been used for 1½ year. Dust might have collected on the CCD, best thing would be to try it out first if it's possible.

I have the S20 for almost one year. It's a little noisy and sometimes I heard some strange noises but is has been always like this. I think that price is high, as Staffan said, don't pay it until you make some 10 - 15 scans first to see if it works well.

If you want to see my photos, scanned with the S20 just write Luis Rosa in the search engine.

I suggest that you keep your hands off that $ 250,- offer! That is way too expensive !!!!  Laugh out loud

Here in Austria they sell brand new HP S20 for approx. between € 297,- (EURO) and € 360,-. Most firms sell that scanner for € 320,- which is (considering todays exchange rate) exactly $ 281,92 (USD) !!!!!!!!!  Wow!

I don´t know what they charge for a brand new HP S20 in your country, but i am sure that the price can be simular to ours here if not even cheaper.

 Big thumbs up

Regards
Edwin

Interesting! That price is way lower than here in Europe... the best price i can find is €458,90, that is from www.newyorkcamera.de ... here in Sweden the best is around € 530 Embarrassment

Austria is in Europe !!!! Big grin

You know.... that little country in the heart of Europe surrounded by Switzerland (and Liechtenstein of course), Germany, Tschech-Republic, Hungary, Slovenia, Italy. Hope i did´nt forget any in the hurry.  Smile

Well the price for the HP S20 used to be almost double of the present height. The prices mentioned in my previous posting are valid since about the last two to three months now.

 Big thumbs up

Edwin

No problem, Gustaf !!!

Well yes... sometimes people mix up Austria and Australia  Smile

Here is a link to some Austrian mail-order companys:

http://www.geizhals.at/?such=HP+S20&a=2391

I´m not sure if they export their products outside of Austria. But you can give it a try.

Using the above link brings you direkt to the companys selling the HP Photosmart S20. Also the prices (in €) are listed. The cheapest on top and the most expensive on the bottom.

Wishing you lot´s of success!

Have a nice weekend

Edwin

Funny...I used exactly the same low price search engine (geizhals.at) and bought the S20 for 298€ !!!
I have not tried to upload any photos as I am still "training" but with all the shots scanned I am very happy!!! It was worth the money.

regards,
patrick

I bought an HP Photo Smart S20 scanner two years ago. The results I got using it are OK. I have over 1,000 photos on this site and all of them have been scanned using the S20.

I bought it new and the cost was $700.00 CAD plus tax.

I bought one new here in Iceland about a month ago and I am quite pleased with it (only thing which needs improving are my photography skills Big grin )

I paid approximately $580 / 640€ for it.
