Hey for any of you NJ/NY guys. I might be flying into TEB on AirNet Systems in a couple of weeks. Was wondering if around the airport you know of any good places to get approach shots.

As a huge biz-jet fan, I know this airport is bustling with movements. All help is appreaciated.

Aaron.

Hi Aaron (and guys),
Been a while since I'v contributed to the forums.... been pretty busy around here with 12 hour work days lately and a recent move a couple towns down the road, but I'm still alive!
Anyways.... I'm still living in the area next to TEB, but in East Rutherford now.
TEB used to be VERY spotter friendly pre 9/11 with nice spots for both rwy 1 and 24, but unfortunately now the PA have put up fence mesh and concrete barriers (and signs up too) saying no stopping and such at those spots. They pretty much ruined the only two (and best) spots that TEB had. I'm not much into shooting biz jets at all... but I would often go down the hill there to have lunch/spot and BS with the British biz spotters that would often come around every summer. I'm sure if one tries hard enough and keeps very low key some limited "hit and run" spotting could be posable (I have some ideas mind myself), but for the most part post 9/11 permitter TEB has change dramatically.... security now at every single entrance to hangers and terminal buildings of any kind. TEB is considered the busiest bizjet airport in the country... biggest planes I've seen here are VIP 737s/DC9s and the occasional P3 Orion/C130. Here's is TEB official website address:

Is Morristown any better for photos/spotting? It's not as busy as TEB, but MMU also has a huge amount of bizjet traffic. Several major NY/NJ based companies have their a/c based at MMU.

There is a rather interesting aviation museum in TEB. I know before 9/11 I went up in the TEB tower many times. Why not drive ove and see if they will let you in.

I spot pretty often at TEB when I am taking flying lessons at Millionair. Once you are on the apron you will have no problem.
Otherwise I never had trouble shooting through the fence up to last week when I made friends with the local Police. I was taking one (!) picture from Industrial Avenue through the fence when a guy from Jet Aviation stopped and asked my why I was taking pictures of planes. I didn't think I would have to tell him, he told me "Don't you know this is private property?" which is absolutely bullshit, because Industrial Avenue is still a public road! He warned me he would call the police.

I walked off, he called the police who stopped me further down the road about 15 min later and asked me what I was doing. They were very friendly and apologised for stopping me, they told me I had every right to take pictures of anything at the airport, but they have to come whenever they get called (once a day at least!). They even mentioned British spotters (see above!) who they often "meet".

If they use Runway 19 and 24 you can still get great shots from the corner of Industrial Avenue and the highway.

Thanks Setjet for that valuable info. I will still try to make it to TEB then and shoot from Industrial Avenue. I want some approach shots, and I know they get everything pretty much, Biz-Jet Wise.

So maybe I will take myself there really soon. I'll see how it goes, and maybe take a little trip into Manhattan as well. I've Never been to any of those places, so it will be a first.

Thanks,

Aaron

Rental is not as cheap as it could be (landing fee alone at TEB is $6.50),
the rental rate for

C-152 $68/hour
C-172 $89/hour
C-172R $116/hour

You can find that information on their webpage
