Main queue was empty of stuff needing first screening last night, as mentioned in another topic started by kindwide. There is a bug in the scripts that results in stuff in the appeals queue also showing as being unscreened - are you sure you haven't appealed these three shots?

OK, so the true situation is:
You have two photographs in the queue, somewhere.
One is a border line case and has been referred to Johan's by the screeners
One is in the appeal queue (appealed by you) and is also awaiting Johan's attention
Ignore the one has not yet been screened - the one in the appeal queue is double counted due to (I think) an error in the script. The e-mail messages are similarly "confused" at the moment.

When you select (or whatever you do to see it) a picture, do you have to screen it, or can you choose to not give your opinion on it and just go on to the next one?

When we go into the screening page, we are given a number of pictures to screen, typically between 10 and 50 - the number of pictures we see is of our choosing. We have no control over which pictures we get - that is decided by the system, based on the queue order.
Dealing with each of the pictures presented to us, we cannot ignore a picture totally. We have four options...
We can accept it
We can reject it
We can ask for a second opinion - that is, if we think a picture is borderline, we can pass it on to another screener for a second opinion - this is the border-case in the stats. If we ask for a second opinion, the next screener that comes along gets that picture to screen
We can pass it to Johan for him to screen - this is the difficult border-case in the stats. This is only done for pics that might be "artistic" but which would otherwise not make it to the database, or for pics like small parts of airplanes
When will they been screened then?
If they're in Johan's queue... when he's got some free time
