You can download a dumb demo of photoshop with all useful features disabled. Why not go get GIMP for windows(almost as powerful, and free, and what I use), http://www.gimp.org/win32. Disregard the crappy drawing as the logo on that page.

This quote from the gimp page concerns me:
"The GIMP for Windows is not really targetted at end-users yet. The program(s) might crash unexpectedly or behave otherwise strangely. (But of course, so do many commercial programs on Windows.) The stability seems to depend a lot on the machine, display drivers, other software installed, and whatnot. Presumably the more memory you have, the better GIMP works. (For any real image work, I would say 128 megabytes is minimum.) Many people do find GIMP very useful."
The reason why Adobe limits the availability of utilities on the demo verson of Photoshop is because the full version of 6.0 sells for close to $600 (even on the internet). The previous version (5.5) still commands nearly $400. They just don't want to lose any money by offering complimentary downloads, not too different than giving away free photos.
For years JASC had free downloads of Paint Shop Pro 3.11. It never expired, but you always got an advisory window telling you that you were passed your evaluation time limit. They are up to v7 now, and they aren't giving that away either. PSP 7 is rather impressive (almost to Photoshop level), and quite a bit less expensive.

So what if it's not targetted at end-users yet. I have had ZERO i repeat ZERO problems with GIMP. I had lots of problems with PSP6 AND 7. Granted, GIMP is a bit slow on my computer, but it isn't exactly fast either.
Now, anything over $50 IS unreasonable, I mean it's just a stinkin computer program for crimeny sakes! I will NEVER pay $600 for a computer program if I dont have to. GIMP is just fine, so GUNDU, Go ahead and give it a try.
