I'm going to the airshow at Farnborough on Friday the 26th July and would like to visit LHR or LGW on the Thursday or Saturday. Do any of the regular photographers know of the chances of seeing an IL86/96/76 at any of the London airports these days. I guess there is more chance of seeing an Il76 at Stansted. Also is it still possible to see anything from the Queens building at LHR (is it still there!) I haven't been since 1982! I have been to the visitors centre on the North side a few times. Not much good for photos but excellent for everything else.

The Queens building is still there and is pretty good for shots of aircraft passing the T2 apron, it gives you a good but distant view of T4 and the cargo area and also runway 27L. Expect landings to be on 27L up untill 15:00 next week.
Unlikely to see an Il-86 or suchlike. The lunchtime Aeroflot arrival is booked for an A310. Have a look at BAA.com for details-aircraft equipment is listed in the timetable section.
you can't buy time but you can sell your soul and the closest thing to heaven is to rock'n'roll

I was on the M25 at the 9L end at lunchtime last Saturday when a Il-96 took off from a 27R departure. It looked superb and was my first sighting of an IL-96. Must keep my eyes on the road in future. Anyone know what reg it was?
