...or so says Johan...
I need help...advice...input...tips...anything!!!
Why is it so many of my shots still get rejected when I now have over 150 pictures in the database?
Why is it there seems to be no consistency of reason...sometimes they are called "blurry"...other times "low quality"...yet often my own shots that are in all ways just as clear...relevant...interesting...rare...or not...get accepted...??
Shots I have high hopes for get rejected when others I think might get bounced get accepted...so what am I missing...
These two shots were recently rejected...I would appreciate your comments...
I want to do the best I can with the shots I have so I would appreciate any assistance you guys can give...and also any comments as to the quality...or otherwise of this selection of shots.

Dean to be honest, I have no idea why those first 2 shots were rejected! Not knowing what imaging program you are using, but for the sake of argument it is Photoshop. The only extra task I would have done before submitting these shots, would be to add a Sharpen Edges filter, that would have brought a litte more definition to the image.
Just one other comment, I love that angle of the BM ERB-145..very nicely done.
As for the VS A340, well....I can definetly tell it is a print and the lighting leaves a lot to be desired. There is almost no seperation between the clouds and the aircraft, had the clouds or aircraft been a little darker..maybe. It also appears that the reds have been exagerrated or enhanced. Overall while the composition is nice and dramatic, I feel that it suffers from grain and poor lighting and an a lack of a sharpness.
These are just my thoughts, I hope youy find them useful.

The first shot (BM ERB-145) is very cool...I too do not know why it was rejected. The only thing I could be nit-picky about is the fact that it looks to be just a touch over-sharpened. Take a look at the main gear...lots of jaggies (a bit of chromatic aberration too). I'm willing to bet those first two images were shot with a digital camera...am I right? If so, taking care of those jaggies and chromatic aberration won't be easy.
Just curious...what kind of camera did you use to get those shots (2mp or 3)? I find that I cannot get many pics accepted to this site anymore with a 2mp camera...

I also think that the Embraer ERB-145 is a awesome shot.. As well as the DC-10 one is also pretty nice..
I dont know why those were rejected. I found those to be good quality. More so even better quality than many of the newer photos recently added.
For the Virgin, I have to criticize that it does lack a bit of quality as it does seem to be too bright as well as it is hard to read the Airbus A340 logo on the plane itself.
But then again, you mentioned that you had no intent on adding that picture anyways..
This is all what I have to say.

Dean,
Nice E145 shot...I think the tail is a hair out of focus.
Gemini shot, I would get more airplane in. Bump the size up a bit too. IMO the "bigger the better"
Virgin A340 is a bit hot on the fuse, too contrasty. Maybe a hair over sharpened.
SATA shot is nice, me like! It's a little blue however (if you look at it for a second, you'll notice a blue tint to the fuse...) Give her a good sharpening...
Not bad shots bud, I would trash the Virgin one...Nice angle, bad sun...

Thanks Thomas...
I also think the Virgin shot is not so good....too contrasty and the reds don't look natural to me (not my doing...I just scanned, cropped and sharpened a touch)...but is it sharp enough...maybe not I think...

Scooter...thanks for the comments...
I use only optical stuff...I am now using a Canon EOS 50e but the Embraer was shot a long time ago...probably when I had my Nikon F60 (which was not a good camera IMHO).
I have never used a digital camera for serious photography...but I do have a Sony Mavica for fun shots!!!
Thanks again,
Dean
Nikonman...thanks for all the comments...and yes I too had noticed the slight blue tinge on the Sata shot...I have a lot of trouble removing colour casts...I can often see they are there (th shot just looks "wrong") but I cannot always get rid of it and get the colours looking natural...but I will keep trying.

Hi Dean,
Sorry I did not comment on the SATA 737, but I had difficulty loading the image the first couple of times.
But now that I see it, the image is rather nice, I do agree with Nikonman there is a little too much blue. This can be remedied in part by putting a Skylight filter on your lens. A little tweaking in the sharpening would add a little more of a kick to this shot.

Hi Marc,
The F60 autofocus is slow and prone to "hunting" in low light/contrast situations...my Canon EOS 50e is sooooo much better!!! Also the metering tends to be a bit inaccurate.
Hope this helps,
Regards,
Dean
PS - I have heard the same complaint from at least one other ex-F60 owner...a guy with over 1000 shots on airliners.net...presumably not all shot on his old F60!!
