Just taken my D60 into Canon Singapore to have the CMOS cleaned for the 3rd time. Camera was working perfectly so a good clean was all that was required. When returned I discovered they had updated the firmware.

A few trips to the airport and 152 photographs later it was time to download them. Zoombrowser opens but advises there are no images on the camera memory card to download. On the camera itself you can review all the images. Tried manually downloading but again no images found on the camera.

There is a patch for Zoombrowser 3.3 and 3.4, not really related, but installed anyway. It has made no difference at all.

I can't imagine the CF card was damaged by Canon since the images are retrievable on the camera.

Any ideas what the hell Canon Singapore may have done? Could it be the new Firmware? I've some images I would hate to lose on the CF card and despite hours of fiddling my efforts have come to nought.

Thanks in advance.

Bailey.

Hi Bailey,

I have upgraded my D60 firmware (did it myself) to 1.0.2 and it works fine. What version does your camera show...?

I suppose you could always try and read the card without any software "in the way", through a card reader or similar just to get the files off of it...

Good luck!
Dean

I would not use Zoombrowser, try downloading BreezeBrowser from www.breezesys.com.

You can also try downloading images from a picture editing program (like Photoshop) File -> Import -> TWAIN -> Acquire.

I think the best option to download images from camera is to buy a separate CF card reader.

Hi Dean,

The firmware is indeed 1.0.2. now. If that is not causing the problems can't think what else. It's the only change, that I'm aware of, that Canon made to the camera.

As hard as it might be I have a feeling I am going to have to format the CF card and lose all those images just to see if the card has developed a problem after its visit to Canon. Unfortunately, I don't have a card reader so I don't think there is any way to save any of the 152 images.

The help is appreciated.

Why not buy a card reader? They are very cheap. I havev't had any problems with 1.0.2. I also don't trust Zoombrowser. Do you have the latest version?

My ZoomBrowser is working just fine, I have never had a problem with it.
But it isn't that fast downloading photos as my card reader is  Smile

My previous experience with ZoomBrowser was not good - kept crashing my computer etc, so I just use a card reader instead. I find it more reliable.

Why has your CMOS needed cleaning 3 times? Does the image become blurry etc when the CMOS gets dirty?

Tried downloading from Adobe Photoshop and a few other programs without success. When the camera is switched on all is fine but as soon as I try and download the camera flashes BUSY. Referred to the manual but no clues as to the problem. Time for a beer I think.

HKG.

CMOS needed cleaning because of dust particles on the sensor. Your images appear with little grey-black dots on them.

My best guess is that this is some form of file corruption - the firmware patch does affect management of thumbnail files. Did you format the card when you got the camera back? Or does this card have images spanning the period before and after the upgrade? If the latter, I pretty sure your file system is "confused" - you may be able to download with a card reader - you really should get one - costs less than a D60 camera strap  Smile. When you have your reader, get the FREE utility "downloader" from

http://www.breezesys.com/

(by all means, buy the Breezebrowser as well, its excellent)

If anything can be got off the card, this will do it. Once the card is clear, make sure you format it before using again.

Cheers,

Colin

Finally been determined that between my computer, the software and the camera, that the camera is the problem. Appears that Canon Singapore have somehow completely screwed it up whilst updating the Firmware. I can't say how or why as they are not providing much feedback but it remains hospitalised in their office. Next time my D60 needs cleaning it will be a speckgrabber doing it and not Canon.

Thanks for the tips on breeze sys. Downloaded them and will try them out when the camera returns. First impressions are its a great improvement over Zoombrowser.
