Mine doesn't scan anything at the moment - it just makes strange noises that it hasn't made for the last year and a half  Sad

Yup it seems negatives arent its favourite food...

But why shoot negatives if you can shoot slides?

It sure does...slide and film adapters both come with the unit. I've had mixed success with negatives, though. They require a lot of work. If you do scan negatives, use the best print film you can find. And even that's no guarantee.

Thanks.. I now shoot slides for your info... But, I have negatives from days back I would like to scan also... I should have researched this subject, anyway, it sounds like some people know how to use this scanner and some dont, because I have seen many people in these forums in older threads say they have no problems with negatives.

Exactly Maiznblu_757!

As is life; those encountering problems have a 'louder voice' than those who are expereincing few or none.....in this case the example being success of scanning negs with the DS II. Good job you researched a bit more......

Shawn,

three reasons:

Slides are better quality. It is cheaper to shoot slides. Slides scan better.

Well, you do have the best print film available (IMO) I don't know about the minolta dual scan II, but on my scanner they scan superbly!

Fuji print film generally scans well. I even have some Reala 400 speed film that has scanned really well for me.

I have the older Minolta Dimage Scan Dual which I have used for about the last three years both for slides and negatives. Most of my uploads in the database are scanned from the negatives using Fuji Superia 100. I have been very pleased with the results and have 403 successful acceptances.

I have a Scan Dual II and found that Fuji Reala scans very well. Probably 3/4 of my 360+ pics on this website were scanned using this film. I've recently switched to Fuji Provia and have to ask myself why I waited so long! Bottom line, Fuji Reala scans good using the default settings on the Scan Dual II. Don't let anyone tell you it doesn't!

a. It does.

b. It is better with slide film but vuescan also helps with negs rather than using the supplied software.
