Photo Rejected, Can Someone Help?

I recently have uploaded 45 high quality digital photos (only the very best from over 200, that I have taken). I have improved each photo (e.g. sharpened when necessary, and so on) and therefore I spent a long time at my PC enhancing the anyhow high quality pictures and uploading them to the database.
What was the result of my work: From 45 pictures less than 40% were accepted!!
So please have a look at two of the rejected photos (BTW, both were rejected as "badscan") and tell me any possible reasons for rejecting these pictures as "badscan"!
If this is a normal result of my work, I will no longer upload my pictures to the database.
Best Regards,
J.L.

Scan quality is good, maybe you have uploaded many similar photos. I suggest to upload smaller quantities of photos each time.

Hi Luis!
Thanks for your answer!
According to the rules I never upload more than 2 photos of the same subject. From the two rejected subjects above, I have uploaded no other photos than these two and both were not in the database yet.  Insane

I like 'em both. Original, surely. Maybe you got a screener that is a little more harsh than others. ( ?? )

Hi,

D-HHFB seems to be, well check out the grey on the tail (rudder whatever, i'm not a helicopter fan  Smile). Its very 'fuzzy' as if slightly over-exposed and out of focus, and the purple fringing doesn't help either.

I can't see much if anything, wrong with D-EBDD.

Hi Res!
The photos passed the first screening and were in the high quality queue before being rejected as "badscan"...

Hi Dan!
Thanks for your very welcome input! Could the thing you call "over-exposed" be a reflection from the sun outside the hangar? But more important, could this be a possible reason for a "badscan"-rejection? On the other hand, note the nice reflection of the outside aircraft in the helicopter window, perfectly sharp!

Sometimes it is difficult to select the best rejection reason, because frankly, the screener has to guess at the cause of the problem. In essence though the problem with each of these pictures is loss of detail in the shadows (helicopter) or highlights (Cessna) - I'm fairly certain the helicopter could be saved by careful use of level and curves in Photoshop. The Cessna - if this is indicative of the original - has simply been slightly overexposed and can't be salvaged.

On the positive side, a 40% acceptance rate from an early submission attempt is commendable - many would be happy to acheive that! Remember, the overall acceptance rate at A.net is only around 25%.

Now is not the time to give up. You demonstrated you are capable of taking A.net standard shots. Learn from what works and what doesn't. The most useful aspect of A.net is it provides both challenges, examples, and plenty of advice in the forums. If you are not willing to adapt and improve, perhaps A.net is not for you - but if you can accept the bitter pill of rejection - and learn from it - you will soon have more acceptances than rejections.

Cheers,

Colin

These are fairly good shots.

My suggestions:

Desaturate the magenta/purple color channel to remove the chromatic abberation somewhat.

Apply the unsharp mask, or a regular sharpening tool if you dont have USM.

Consider cropping off a little of the grassy area from the bottom of D-EBBD, and apply sharpening. This is a strong photo, it belongs here at airliners.net!

Good luck

Shawn

Those are nice shots.. Keep going as it lookes like you have found a new home on this website.  Smile

Now If I only shot digital instead of prints, I could have those L337 style qualities.. hehe.
I just finished uploading a batch of 30 pictures. FIrst time uploading en masse as from now on I WILL NOT UPLOAD TO THIS SITE EVER AGAIN!! (for a few months)
Those 30 pictures will be my last and then there wont be any more uploads from me afterwards. Because of school and Piano, I will be very busy. If -IF- I am lucky and time frees up, I can squeeze in 1 or 2 pictures over the next weekends, but that is unlikely. Screeners go easy on me!  Laugh out loud Big grin
However, if I catch some firm tight things on film I will Upload them ASAP. Exceptional Priorities are: Blue Zip, Green Zip, and Flying Maple Leaf Flag 2002.

Cheers,

Bo

Hi Colin, Shawn & Bo!

Thanks for your help, highly appreciated!
A reason for having problems to accept the rejection was the unsuitable explanation given in the "badscan.txt". I have no problems to improve a photo when necessary or to accept a rejection, but I need to know the exact reason for the rejection.
If a photo is slightly over-exposed, why did you not mention this as the final rejection-reason instead of a long and unsuitable "badscan.txt"?  Confused

I cannot publish all rejected photos in the Aviation Photography Forum to get this kind of feedback, but on the other I can only improve a photo if I know what went wrong.

So my suggestion: Instead of a long and confusing badxxx.txt, simply add one word "over-exposed" or a small but helpfull sentence "loss of detail in the shadows (helicopter)"!  Wink/being sarcastic

Best Regards,
Joachim
