Hello Guys, im stuck on which camera to get ....
It was going to be D60, D100 or S2 but having booked a holiday i need all the money i can get now so im coming down the ladder abit!
I've noticed the F707 has become very popular lately and the quality of shots coming in through the F707 are of a very high standard.
On the otherhand we have the Nikon Coolpix 5700 for near enough the same price, it seems a very smart looking camera too....
Also, Sony have just announced the F717 will be released next month which means the F707 will decrease reasonably in price.
Another issue with the F707 is the dark left side, this is proving abit of a disadvantage as in some shots i've looked at it's clearly visible ....
I need help guys, what do you think?
All the best

Yeah LOT your F707 needs some help!
As said, the models manufactured during April 2002 and beyond are free from the DLS defect. Mine is April 2002 and it doesn't have the problem.
I don't really like the image quality from the Nikon. Sure it has a nice long zoom, but I don't know if it really makes up for the image quality...
Read my replies in the abovementioned thread, I stated some strengths found in the F707 that the 5700 doesn't have.
Nikon images might look good straight from the camera, but that means you can't do as much in PS.

Actually, if I had a job at the time, I would have seriously considered buying a DSLR and some lenses. If you have the patience to save the money, think about that!

How often have I say this: The Coolpix is much better than any Sony digital-camera. The 5700 got several awards and had won every race in Europe here. Just check some local testmagazines, specialist on cameras.

Could someone put here some CP5700 pics? I'd like to see with my own eyes how good they actually are. I've used search system on the front page and it showed only a couple of pictures, so I'd like to see some other pics too.

AIRLINERS.NET CREW PHOTO SCREENER
all my shots are done with a CP5k, same "guts" as the 5700, just lacking the optical zoom (in stock form, that is )

Ben,
I was in Tenerife at the same time as you. Flew out 20th August and back 3rd September. Did not get to the strip though - as an old married man, my experiences of waking up at 8am on a pavement in Magaluf are but a distant memory. Flew JMC 752s, FCLC and FCLB. Saw a fantastic sunset on the return flight with Teide poking through the clouds, but we were belted in and my camera was in the overhead bins
Regards,
Craig.

Oh well, there are plenty of good cameras out there. The Minolta D7Hi also looks like a very juicy target...
To each their own I guess, but I really love my F707. I have always been a loyal Sony customer since they make very sound electronic products. I've always had and continue to have good luck with Sony.
Not to mention that the Memory Stick media is cross-compatible with a host of other Sony products including PDAs, computers, digital video cameras...
But here's how I see it. If you give me a D60 and you give Andy Hunt, Glenn Alderton or Joe Pries a dinky 2 megapixel camera, I can almost guarantee that those other guys will end up with a much nicer photograph than mine.
If you aren't a good photographer, no amount of money spent on a camera will make your pics better. Just get a camera and go take some pictures.
