Where is a good place around Bath road (where the airport hotels are) for landing/take-off shots? I will be nightstopping at the Sheraton Skyline.
Thanks

Bath Road is on the north side of LHR, so in the unlikely event that it is sunny, you will be on the wrong side. However, the end of 27 right is walkable from the Skyline - go across the Bath Road, across to the north side perimeter road, and walk along it to the end of the runway (probably total 15 minutes). The 27s are the normal runway given the prevailing winds, but you could end up being unlucky if they're using the 09s - that'd be a loooong walk. Whether 27 left or right is used for landings depends on when you visit and the time of day - the take-offs and landings swap sides at 15:00.

Many pics taken on the north side of LHR are taken from the Pink Elephant parking lot, but I think you'd need to be in a car to get in there as it isn't a walk in/walk out lot - its cars in, buses out.

Hope this helps,

Andy

Hi Andy,

I´m arriving at terminal 3 tomorrow, and I will go to the central bus station to take the H30. Is this the only one that drives to the BA Cargo Center or somewhere to 09L? Do you know how often they drive per hour? I´m departing on SW286 to FRA at 18:45. How long does it take to- let´s say the holding point of 09R- to terminal 3 by bus/walk?

Thanks!
Ivica

Ivica,

Sorry, but you know more about the buses than I do... I don't live near LHR, and when I go there I have a car. Holding point 09R to T3 is not really possible to walk...

18 hour TAF for Heathrow until 1200Z (1300 local) tomorrow is:
EGLL 131043Z 131812 04007KT CAVOK PROB40 TEMPO 2203 8000 BKN010 BECMG 0305 6000 BKN010 PROB40 TEMPO 0509 4000 BR BKN005 BECMG 1012 SCT012 PROB40 1012 9999

Basically, it should be 09s for landings/takeoffs... For the morning, the weather is 6000m visibility in mist with cloudbase 1000 feet, temporary periods until 10:00 local 4000m vis in mist with 500 foot cloudbase, then between 11:00 local and 13:00 local becoming scatered cloud at 1200 feet and a fair chance of unlimited visibility.

Enjoy your day - the afternoon should be good.

Andy

BA777,

Do what??? If you mean want the met for Sunday, all being well yes. If you want mid-afternoon, I can give you the met until lunch. If you wait until after 18:00, you can have the all day aviation met. I won't be there Sunday though - flying myself at East Midlands.

Andy

PS: Update on the LHR met for tomorrow til 19:00

EGLL 131633Z 140018 02007KT CAVOK PROB40 TEMPO 0003 BKN010 BECMG 0305 8000 BKN010 PROB40 TEMPO 0509 4000 BR BKN005 BECMG 1012 SCT012 PROB40 TEMPO 1218 9999

Becoming between 04:00 and 06:00 8000m vis with broken cloud at 1000feet, 40% probability between 06:00 and 10:00 periods when the vis will drop to 4000m in mist with broken cloud at 500feet, then between 11:00 and 13:00 cloud improving to scattered at 1200 feet and temporary periods between 13:00 and 19:00 with unlimited vis.

Tomorrow, essentially the morning may be a bit grotty and the afternoon should be pretty fair.

Andy

Cheers Andy,

Will go along with my Superia 200, but will take a couple of Reala in case it does pick up.
