Despite cancelling my subscription some months ago, I received in the post today a copy of flight international (12-18Nov)

Flicking though I was delighted to come across Garry Lewis's famous BWIA A340 shot on page 32 (not that it needs plugging of course!)

I just wanted to say Nice one Garry! Hope you were suitably recompensed for the photo.

That's funny. Earlier today, I was showing a friend of mine who is from Trinidad some BWIA shots on A.net and we ran across Garry's shot. My friend said, "Wow, that's a nice shot! I bet it's in some magazine somewhere!"

How approriate the timing is for this topic to come up.  Big thumbs up

Its better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air than be in the air wishing you were on the ground. Fly safe!

It's about the 4th or 5th time that FI has used that shot now. Since Garry took the shot everytime FI carries an article on BWIA they use that shot.

Hi all,

Wow, I am flattered, many thanks to you all for your kind words.

Unfortunately my recent house move has made me broadband-less for a few weeks, while I have had to jump through hoops to get ntl to install it...........It should be in Thursday, thankfully, and that is why I have been absent for a while............and of course missed this nice thread.

That BWIA photo almost didn't make it into flight. I went away to Manchester for a couple of days shooting and when I got home there was an email from Max saying he needed to hear from me ASAP to use the shot..........I phoned him on Saturday afternoon, and by Wednesday it was in.

The shot was the first time I have shot departures from there and was a bit of a gamble, but luckily the A340's awful departure performance allowed me to get some nice shots. Right place, right time  Smile

Thanks again

Yep... see if they will insist on ordering the horribly underpowered -2/300 series aircraft then that's the sort of performance they can expect.

The Trent 500 powered A340s on the other hand.... now that's a man sized set of engines!

... not that I'm biased of course! Big grin Big grin Big grin
