I've ordered equipment around 1500 Euros from them. No problem, they are trustworthy, service is good, you can have feedback by personal emails and pay when receiving the order, no credit card is needed.

Hi,

Bought my digital camera in the shop in Germany. Good service and good advise on the phone and by email.

Hi.

I ordered the BG-ED3 and BP-511 for the D60, friday the 21st and it arrived yesterday, 25th. From Germany to Denmark. Quite fast I think.

Kenneth

They say that the D60 can only be ordered by transfer in advance (you transfer the money, then they order it)

I trust them, but my dad is real sceptical. It is a huge amount of money...

Does anyone know if I transfer the money, and if things go wrong, if there is a way of getting the money back?

Hope I made myself understandable.. Smile

Hi Wietse.

They said exactly the same thing to me, and I DON'T want to transfer any money. First, how can you be sure, that they will send? And how does the package looks like, when it arrive? If it's trashed, you have the opportunity to reject the package.
I was in the same situation, and I ordered somewhere else, where they accept Cash On Delivery. I want to check the package BEFORE spending any money.

Hope this clears it up a little.

Regards,

Kenneth

Kenneth,

Thanks for the reply.

Where did you order your camera?

The main difference is I think: We wanted to pick up the camera in the store in Germany. So perhaps transferring the money isnt so bad in that case?

Thanks for the input,

Wietse

Hi Wietse.

I think, I would do that. As I mentioned, they were quite fast on my order. I paid per Visa, which you can say is almost the same as transfer.
I ordered my D60 on . It was a little more expensive, but the lens I also bought, was cheaper there. So in the long end, they were equal.
But anyway, they seem to be reputable as NYC, so go for it.  Wink/being sarcastic

Wietse,

why don't you buy it at a real camera store?
There is also another one in Germany which ain't that bad.

http://www.foto-koch.de

As far as I remember, they even accept cc and DUS is not that far away from AMS.

V why should he pay that much more?
The lens I just bought at B&H is more than 500 euro more at Foto Koch...
Although the D60 price is OK I guess...

Vasco,

That store looks good, but then I'd have to start the procedure (ordering, acquiring info, etc...) again, and I am on kind of a deadline as I like to have the camera with me when I go skiing in Adelboden, CH.

I'll discuss this with my dad and I hope that we can work things out on time  Smile

thanks so far,

Wietse

K,

there was a reason why I did not suggest B&H NYC.
Import Taxes and Duty would be due if ordering online.

I bought most of my gear at BH, but then again I used to live there....

Not everyone is so fortunate to have buddies in NYC, who are willing to pay hundreds of USD of excess baggage, just to bring K his new toy  Big grin

Foto Koch is indeed not the cheapest store around but one with a good reputation!

V, indeed better than having buddies in DRS where there is nothing of interest to buy for me, and worse, nothing to be seen at the airport, hahaha

Wietse:

I did transfer the money to NewYork Camera, and they sent the camera when they got it. No problem so far.
But, I was lucky and the shipment was in good shape when it arrived.
(I had it delivered by DHL, expensive but quick)

BUT, they DO send the camera Cash On Delivery.
I know someone who did it with a D60 to Sweden.
No problem.

So, talk to them again and ask for it. I don't see any reason for this not to work for you too....

Good luck.

Tommy, Kenneth,

Is it wiser to do this thing Cash On Delivery? Or should I pick it up in the store (thus drive to Germany, my dad is in favor of the last)

Thanks,

Hi Wietse,

I picked my digital camera up in the store in Germany. Combine it with a Saturday of spotting at Dusseldorf or so.
Good to try out your new toy  Wink/being sarcastic

has anyone noticed something in the time it takes them to respond to emails? I get max 1 email per day, once every 3 days... it isnt really working at that rate.....

I might be looking at a different store... foto-koch sounds pretty good actually.. so if I dont get the COD working, I might order from there...

I've heard extremely conflicting stories about NY-camera.
One person had no single order arrive properly. Always something wrong or missing and while it usually got sorted out in the end it cost him a lot of money on international phonecalls.
He switched to other suppliers in the end...

I use http://www.technikdirekt.de who give excellent service and shipping.

Thanks for the suggestions so far...

The prices at Technikdirect and Photo-Koch are not that much higher then at newyorkcamera.de. (it only differs 100 Euro max..)

I have sent inquiries to both technikdirekt and Photo-Koch.. I will see tomorrow if they respond to emails faster than NYC.de

Ill keep you posted,
