I'm heading up to EDI on the 0800 BA shuttle from LHR and returning around 1700, it's not supposed to be a photography trip but if there are some spots that I can get to fairly easily I'll give them a try.

Could one of the locals tell me if these two pictures were taken from the spot?

Having looked at Multimap I guess that this is the taxiway to the West of the Terminal buildings, will this be in use with easterly winds forecast?

Final question, bearing in mind that I'm flying to EDI I hope I'm not gonna need a stepladder to get shots like those!

If all goes well tomorrow I'll be back when the evenings are longer and it's not so cold......

Hi

Head towards the Ingliston Market area and you will see the photospot.

Despite some locals using ladders, I found there is no need to. A couple of holes in fences, big enough even to stick my 170-500 through.

Depending on the runway in use, you may get some shots like this, only if it is sunny  Smile

Thanks Gary,

Compared to me down here in London I would consider you a bit local to EDI! And I guess that by that logic it makes Shaun a local in EGGD's back yard!!

Overall a pretty good day, the weather was a bit dark to start off with so I only got about half an hour of sunnyish weather before I had to head in to the city. My D30 doesn't seem to like the cold-the AF was dreadful today, but these three are the best of the ones I've processed so far.

It took an hour and a quarter to fly back-we did 5 circuits of the Woburn holding pattern and arrived LHR an hour late :-(

Thanks for the information posted earlier-it helped me quite a bit!

No, you'll have to email me-my address is on my profile.

I'm going to get some sleep now after a long day-I'm off to SOU tomorrow although that's by train! And I may just find time to go to LHR over the weekend too!!

I was up at EDI a few months ago (August), I went watched the a/c take off and land etc, and found the best bit was Ingliston Market. I did notice a few people in their cars their....it's about 10 minute walk from the Terminal.

Hi Matt

Thanks for showing some of your pics and glad you had a good time.

Sorry to say this but the Ryanair 737 is blurry as hell  Sad

Did you manage to get the lens through the holes in the fence? Were they still there?

I found one hole in the fence which was big enough for most lenses, although I was mostly using a lens with a 52mm thread which I was able to use without having to resort to the holes.

The Ryanair shot wasn't perfect by any means but I was trying to get a motion blur effect which is something I haven't tried before.

I read this post on Wed night but I was unable to reply. (server probs?)
I dropped by at 12:30 for a while and caught EC-III landing but the weather was a bit too dull for me.
Planes where landing on 06. In that case, try walking up towards the 'Pink King Kong'  Smokin cool and the embankment at that area looks over the fence. (only 2 minutes from that 'hole')
I think that's where Gary took his Go-Fly 737 shot...

Anybody landing at EDI will see that stupid 'Pink King Kong' in the market.
I was always grey, but painted a horrible pink lately...  Nuts

EDI yesterday was great weatherwise compared to down south today-I'm not bothering with SOU!

The two pictures I posted at the top of the thread were taken from the hole in the fence as far as I can tell-as was the GO 737 I think.

Hi all

Matt, no fence in the way of the Go Fly 737 shot.

I think you did not walk up far enough to get to that area for a shot with that background. If you were opposite King Kong, you will be correct  Smile

Cheers

Gary

I'll leave it in the bag until he really hurts me.
