I'm planning on visiting in mid/late March and while I'm familiar with the NYC airports (I lived in Ct. for 3 years) I would like to know where these photos were taken.

I'd also like to tknow what zoom lens was used & also whether the location is for the priviledged (Joe, Carlos) of us common folk.

I'll help with the JFK spots:

#12: Tough to say since Tom didn't put what runway it was landing but looks like 31R in the afternoon taken from Costco in Five Towns. Or, could be 22L taken in the AM just under the approach on Rockaway Turnpike.

#13: Not accesible to the general public

#14: Approach to 13L in the afternoon. Proceed to the Cargo area just past the rental car agencies. Look for Air France Cargo and you'll see where the planes are approaching. You can then figure it out from there.

#15: Howard Beach, Queens (way) off airport grounds. Look on any map (mapquest.com) and find the bridge that connects Howard Beach to Broad Channel (and further to the Rockaways) and it's the first bridge closest to HB.

#16: This one is tricky and I would not suggest doing it without a "guide" It requires a good hike from the #15 spot and could be difficult/impossible during high-tide. Unless this is a long takeoff and taken from the morning 4R spot I'm not sure, best to email Yevgeny.

LGA:

You ask:
Is the view better than at the end of the USAirways terminal?

This is the view from the end of the US Airways Terminal. Taken before 9/11 when access was given to anyone. Believe you do have to be a ticket-holder now.

EWR:

3,6,9 and 10:
are taken from the IKEA parking lot and the food court. Pre-9/11 they used to be good, but now the cops are going to chase you away. The food court is OK, but the window brownish tint is just horrible.

JFK:
15:
I would say this one is actually taken from Inwood area, there are couple other shots by Tom like that, but landing on 31L (opposite end of the 13R). Don't quote me on this one  Smile

LGA:
17:
Matt had stated the spot, but I don't think you can get access to the roof
18:
It's a departure from 31, the shot apparently taken from the terminal (AA side), but you need a real good zoom to get this up close

regards,
Dennis

p.s. I wanna to try planeview park some day soon, any ideas or comments?

The JFK and EWR spots seen are about as good as they get, but as for LGA, how do you like these shots? I find them better than the ones you posted.

#6planeview

#1 and 2 are planes departing RWY13
#3,4,5 are planes arrving on RWY31
and #6 is a plane arriving at Planeview

The best thing about all these spots is that the planes are so close that you don't even really need a zoom lens (although it does help). The first 5 I showed you are taken at a dock that another a.net member and I found last summer. The terrain raises up (it's right accross the river from LGA), and there's a little concrete slab where you can sit or stand on, that gives you these great views...
If you need any help, don't hesitate to e-mail me...

The #2 shot was taken from the Ikea lot, and #3 I took from the long term parking lot (I think G) at the north end of 22R/L.

Parking Lot G is still there..and in use. Now its called something else. Although I spent considerable time there post-911 without a problem, the last time I checked the security company had become very aggressive and you were not allowed to take pictures from there. Upon leaving, you were likely followed out. Maybe this circumstance has or will change, but not that I know of. Forget about Lot H. Too Bad; its a shame because obviously its a senseless sacrafice.

I was at EWR today and I sat in a parking lot of a gas station about 1 mile or so from 22L/R. It was awesome, I was there for about three hours and no one bothered me the whole time. I also was at Ikea and that is pretty good for departures but the planes are a little far for my 300mm, and they turn away from you pretty quickly.

Sam, I was with Joe today and he mentioned that you were coming mid-February and that we might get together for something. I look forward to meeting you also.

Tom is right about parking lot G. I've been there for hours and no problems and then I've been there for under an hour and chased out. The key is to stay low key. We sat in the car and only got out when we saw something approach we wanted to shoot and then back in the car. We also kept a close eye out for security patrols, but they have a way of sneaking up on you. They tell you to leave and call the PA Police. If you leave quickly you get out befor the cops arrive ... in fact, you can watch them go to the spot you were. They've never escorted me out, just told me and left.

Sam,

Arrived MIA Friday night and Sat. morning/afternoon they were using the 27's, but we were busy with the ramp tour and got some good shots (last couple accepted for me). Sun. morning they were using the 9's so we went to Opa-locka for the a.m. Noticed there that they changed to the 27's and headed back. Before we could get here they changed to the 9's again. Scouted around and found a place to get some shots or 27R by the Avis Rental return lot. Then they went and changed back to the 9's and we had a great afternoon shooting yesterday. This a.m. they were on the 9's again and we went to FLL for the morning then came back and they were on the 27's again. We've managed a lot more time on the 27s than the 9s. But it really does seem to be a flip/flop kind of time.

A question regarding IKEA. How can the cops come and throw you out of a business's lot. Is IKEA telling them to do so? I can't even imagine that down here in Tampa, if I was sitiing in my car at a Walmart or a Publix.

Correct... when IKEA security askes you to leave and you don't, then Elizabeth Police will come and do it for them "nicely." IKEA is private property, if your Walmart or Publix really wanted you out of their lot they could easily do so. We've also been booted out of IKEA by US Customs Police as well... right behind IKEA is probably one the largest shipping port of entries on the East coast.

Los,

I've been booted from Ikea quite a few time myself. Both EPD and IKEA Security. Damn them.  Wink/being sarcastic  Wink/being sarcastic Have done rather well in the Virgin Cargo parking lot by the north area though. PA Police get a little antsy when you're there at times but I usually can hang there for a bit.

Watched a guy pull over on the NJ Turnpike (North) to take a picture. Not exactly the brightest thing to do. You can almost be guaranteed a ticket - at the least.

I don't repeat the same spots, in the short term, if I've been required to leave by legitimate authorities. I think thats best for the hobby.
