Hi all,

Just got two photos rejected for badscan. I thought the quality was good . . . I guess it did not meet the Airliners.net standards. Could anyone help me improve the quality of the photos? Thanks a lot!

Hi Jerrold,

They look pretty good to me, except for a little vignetting on the CA shot (no big deal), and the LH is a bit grainy (always difficult getting a good result when scanning shots taken in less than perfect conditions).

Cheers
Paul

Jerrold,

the China Airlines Boeing 747 has very much noise in the sky. It appears that there are stripes running from top to bottom. Additionally, there are very little details in the darker sections. I would recommend to rescan your image, apply some blur to the sky (to get rid of the noise) and decrease the contrast a bit.

The Lufthansa Cargo has these vertical stripes, too, and there is quite an amount of grain visible. This shot however is much harder to fix as you cannot apply some blur to the mountain background.

You should also check your scanner because of these stripes.

Hope this helps!

Jerrold,

A good way to get rid of the stripes is to select the red channel (in which they are most likely contained) and using the dodge tool to get rid of them.

I've had the trouble too- only with my new negative scanner. Its really pissing me off because that method only works so well... and the stripes have made some of my scans not even worth uploading!  Sad

..Serge

Hi all,

I fixed the sky and lowered the contrast a bit for photo #1. Now I don't see anymore stripes. Do you still see anymore stripes?

Thanks for the feedback!  Smile/happy/getting dizzy What do you guys think? (Will fix photo #2 later.)

Jerrold,

noise is the opposite to smooth colours from a digital SLR.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy It has the same effect as grain, but is caused by the scanner itself and not by the grain of the film (which is emphasized through the scanning process).

Your second shot is better, but the sky is still noisy. And did you rescan it? Otherwise the decrease of contrast would only produce flat colours.

Here we go again . . . back to square one!  Sad Both of them were rejected for badscan. Is there any other way I could get rid of the noise?

Thanks,
Jerrold
