Guys,

I have received a rejection notice for this picture...

http://airliners.net/procphotos/rejphoto.main?filename=cgptsyyzbw.jpg

...for badmotiv.

Is there anything I can do to improve it and try again or should I just not bother?

Thanks in advance, Dripstick

I actually like this one...smart to use B&W in this case.

Sorry Andy, I don't get it either.
I take occasional tail shots too....but...
Motive? You just desaturated it to shades of grey.

Are you able to show us what the shot is like before you drained the colour from it?
Maybe I'll then I'll understand.

Cheers

I LOVE IT!

If I had just been browsing, I would have clicked on it. I wonder why it was rejected, because it's certainly not badmotiv.

I like it. Very artistic feel to it.. would make a great advertisement!

The above reasons I gave for liking it are probably the same reasons a screener used to kill it Big grin (hard to get artistic shots accepted)

I would definately appeal.

Really cool, maybe if it was zoomed in on the tail a bit more. Very different though!

Hey Andy:

I like it. Made me do a double take. But it is one of those images that fall into the "artistic" category and therefore I am not sure how various screeneers would feel about it.

It is the type of image that strengthens the case for their to be a truly artistic category, aviation related. But then question then becomes... "Is Avaition.net the forum for those images?" Perhaps Photosig might be a better venue, though it would sadden me to believe that there is not room for "art" on A.net.

Questions. Why in Black & White and not color? Just curious as the image does indeed work well in BW. However it is a bit flat and could use some tonal work. Clouds should have some highlights in them, especially the Cu's. Mind you, you might have to mask the fuselage in order not to blow out those highlights. But I think it would be worth the effort, if only to satisfy yourself. Think of the tonal range in an Ansel Adams image. Go for it.

I have played around with it a little in PS but don't know how to put it back somewhere where you can see in on A.net. Any suggestions.

Steve

Thanks for the comments guys.

Maybe I'll try to tweak it a bit by bringing out the clouds and possibly cropping the subject further.

If I'm not happy with the result...oh well. I didn't take the pic with the intention of uploading it here.

Nice to hear some of you GET what I was trying to convey.

Cheers, Dripstick

Andy,
One of the most original shots I have seen on here in a long time! I love it, it really is unique. I had to do a double take on it as well. As far as the BadMotive rejection... I have found when shooting tails, that if too much of the aft fuselage is showing for what ever reason, "badmotive" is the rejection I recieved. Have you considered a vertical crop?

Great work,

v/r
Jeff

Very, very nice. Actually, last night I was laying in bed and suddenly I thought, "It would look very cool if I could get a photo of an Air Transat tail with a cloudy background. It would look like there is a hole in the tail" But since Air Transat very rarely comes into PHX, I quickly dismissed it. But you, my friend, have followed through on my dream. Its like its my photo too. *sob*  Big grin

Nice shot,

I guess the reason for leaving so much space around it is because you want to show the color of the skies around the tail? This is someting that I and some others I know have been trying to achieve in a long time (albeit in color), getting the sky to look like the sky in the tail. Nice effect and I wish I had shot it  Smile

Thanks Jeremy.

Location was the infield area where there is now a fueling station for ground vehicles. (near the infield terminal)

Actually....no, I was flying an F-35 fighter and shot it air-to-air...yeah, that's it.  Big thumbs up
