Hello everyone,

I just heard that Canon stopped its production of the famous D60, because they want to introduce a succession model at the CeBit fair in Hannover/Germany.

It should be named V90???? Why V and not D???

Can anyone confirm this? And if yes, what are the features for that camera.

Greetings
Tobi

Yes, Canon has stopped production, and there are no end of rumours ast to what is coming next. It/they will almost certainly be announced at PMA in the US in a few days. Most "beleiveable" (ie from good sources) rumours suggest 2 cameras:

D80 - an upgraded D60, must better AF, 8mp sensor 1.5 crop factor
D40 - a "plastic" DSLR 4mp sensor 2x (!) crop factor

The D40 is rumoured to be "affordable".

Cheers,

Colin

Yup.. true... I had the last D60 in the Netherlands. (not the last one for sale, but the last one shipping out) So good luck in getting one. If your using newyorkphoto.net (or something like that) you wont get one... Ive had an order there for 3 months, but they couldnt deliver one...

When the new one comes out (if the model with more features than D60 not less), mine will be available to anyone here who wants to give me fair offer before I place it on Ebay.

D,
The D60 has revolutionized the way I shoot photos, primarily non-airplane types (alot of the contracting work I do) so for me its a business decision more than having the newest toy out, that i'm not interested in- just consistent high quality results from my gear (except when i screw up settings like I did last week on my 1v).

There is certainly a good business case for trading up as each new model comes out before the "old" camera looses too much residual value.

So lets say in UK terms I could sell my D60 (still in warranty) for 1500 - in the time I've had it that camera has saved me much more than 500 in film costs, never mind what it's earned me.

Against that I've come to really know and love the D60 warts and all - it has certainly resulted in a real improvement in my photography. I'm not sure I'm keen on going through the learning curve of another DSLR which will probably be only an incremental improvemnt on the D60. I think to get the same benefit to my photography as I got from the D30/60 I would need to be looking at the 1Ds - which is just too much.

Cheers,

Colin

Hmm lastest info is that the new Canon's won't be D?? anything, as Canon is standardising their naming convention to match film cameras. It now looks that Tobi may be right in so far as the 2 models I described may not be announced until September - but with a different name.

The likely product for PMA is a less dramatic D60 replacement - the 10D -
same sensor, improved AF ... lower price?

Cheers,

Colin

all these rumours around, and all of them from the same source...
Speculation is nice, but does not make a lot of sense. Canon has build the new one already but will not tell of it yet  Big grin
My advice: do not care about it, keep taking great pics with your recent camera and wait a little bit, in less than two weeks you will know more about the D60 sucessor (for sure!)

Believe me, i'm not sweating it at all, i'm very very very happy with my D60 and when the new model comes out if its not a good value i'll stay with the D60.

As someone who is waiting to make the jump to Digi SLR, I to have heard that the new one will be called the EOS-10D. Basically a 6mp camera with faster autofocus. The $1500 range has been tossed around but I cannot see that....especially when they cannot make enough D60s at 2200!!!!!
Who knows.......whatever it is will be obsolete by the time it is shipped!!!!

the sucessor of the D60 is finally presented:
it is the ---> 10D <---
It has been put ondisplay by Canon at a photo fair in Greece.
Photos can be seen here:
http://www.pbase.com/geonahta10d/canon_10d
Seems to be an upgrade of the D60, not a really new camera, but that can be disussed later as there will be a Canon press conference next thursday!

...finally a 2nd body for my D30

I've heard that it will have same mp like the D60 and a multip factor a of 1.5, but I don't if that's true

Nothing concrete yet. The 'best' rumours are:

6MP [same sensor as D60 but made in a different plant]
1.6 crop factor. [Same as D60]
Elan 7 AF unit with 7AF points.
ISO 100 - 3200.
White Balance bracketing
3FPS
Selectable colour temparture and 4 selectable colour spaces including adobeRGB [ Big grin ]

Price: 1950 Euro [don't know the code for the symbol!]

Most of these stats are generally agreed - the MP rating is disputed by some but I think that's probably their wishful thinking.

Oh and the price - I've seen a couple of separate prices rumoured, both around 2000 Euro. This does tie in with Canon Japan's press realease which said a digital SLR would be anounced with a 'spectaular' price. If this really is the case then the opposition [namely Kodak, Nikon and high end digicam manufacturers] will have a hard time selling their gear.

hehe! Thx.

If we ever join the euro then at least I'll be able to write the € symbol now.[Although I will still describe everything in £ as a protest Big grin]
