Great news for FLL, sadly from what I have heard from Houston, IAH is still in 'war mode' with no plans to change.

Not that anyone cares :-p but the viewing area at GRR got reopened. Apparantly it was closed due to the higher terror alert. Needless to say, I am very happy!

I told you all this would blow over when the terror alert went down, and they caught the 9/11 kingpin as well. That's two for us and Zero for the terrorists!!!!!

Hey guys.
Now would be the time to send some positive reenforcement letters to the airport authorities.
Maybe it will help them tray away from being such worry warts next time.

MCO is still bad, I highly doubt the Frontage Rd fence will be taken down. MCO's website still says "Aircraft spotting at Orlando International Airport will not be permitted until further notice. The Greater Orlando Aviation Authority apologizes for the inconvenience."

PBI has a spotting area...Im pretty sure its open, havent been up there to spot or shoot so I dont know how good it is...
OPF overall is good with the veritable boneyard of retired airliners there...as well as the Avialeasing Antonovs (An-12 and An-24 I think?) which are usually parked in a spot very favorable for photography

Oh yeah, and with those east-west runways at FLL & MIA, is the sun angle still acceptable? Past experience has shown me that by mid April the sun is north of the runways.

The photo holes at the 9L area have been gone since shortly after 9/11/01...to shoot touchdowns you need a ladder, a roof of a car or pickup bed, etc...or there is a large mound nearby that overlooks the fence, but the cops arent keen on people going up there...

Yes, Greg and this is correct one for the situation happen after 9/11/01 the photo holes was remove and it was been no longer use there. So if you will able do continue shooting with the pics at the airplanes. OK? Well, if you have anything of the questions for the information at the viewing area. Thanks!!

Paulinbna, what do you mean - BNA does have a viewing area parking lot with picnic table. is it closed or something?? as for sun angle I dont remember the sun being north of the runways when I lived there. summertime at midday is not too good as the sun is overhead....but I would think early or late shooting would be ok, right??
About OPA, where is a good place to shoot the "boneyard" from? Are the public allowed to go onto their grounds?

Bruce,
Most of them are fenced in, however, there are many public roads within the airport complex to navigate around...I havent gone there for picture taking so I cant say how good it is for that in that respect...but they arent like totally isolated...

Yeah that sun goes north of the runways in April or so. I've got the pictures to prove it. How else do you explain a backlit BA 747-200 landing when I'm facing north?
