Hi!

I a couple of my photos were rejected and I would appreciate if you give me some advice how to improve those pictures. Original photos are taken by F717. Original photos are IMHO of good quality but the light is a little hazy, so I tried to increase Brightness/Contrast. Is there anything more I can do?

These photos was rejected:
1. badscanbadcameraangle http://airliners.net/procphotos/rejphoto.main?filename=DHL_A300_f.jpg

2. badscan http://airliners.net/procphotos/rejphoto.main?filename=Sunset_f2.jpg
I tried to improve it. Do you think that it qualifies this time or should I just scrap it?http://photo.jippii.fi/fi/image//data/photo/jippii.fi/f/e/fedex/1046888134482.jpeg

The following two photos were rejected. I know that they are of bad quality
since I am lousy in photo editing but what steps should I take in order to improve them?
3. badscan http://airliners.net/procphotos/rejphoto.main?filename=Finnair_A319_LVE_f.jpg
4. badscan http://airliners.net/procphotos/rejphoto.main?filename=Finnair_A320_LXH_f.jpg

Best Regards,
Ville R.

1) I would crop it (too much air above). Also I would resize it to 1024. The 401 sign is a bit in the way (it hides part of the nosegear). I don't know the spotting location but I would move a bit to the right and wait untill the aircraft has passed the sign to have a side shot.

2) I would say that the wing is a bit too blurry (although it is very difficult to get shots in those conditions and the one you made is already a very good try).

3) badsoft, badlevel and again a bad angle. If you want to take the picture from this angle, try to zoom more for a close up. Also try to play a bit with the levels...

4) the angle of this one is good, although it's again badlevel (turn it slightly CCW). I would also change the levels, and sharpen it. Maybe a tighter crop would be good also.

I would certainly resize them all first to 1024 before I start to work on them.

Regards
Frederic

The two last ones look like they were shot in pretty bad light, overcast is rarely good when taking photos. I'd forget about these and try to get som e better shots on a sunny day with nice blue skies!  Smile

Looking at the shots you've already got in the database Ville, you don't need the sun.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Something about #3 & #4 makes me think you've got a teleconverter fitted?
(What type? Am I correct?)
I can see some unusual abberasion.
The bottom left is very soft too.
Personally, I apply a little USM before resizing to 1024 wide.
(My preference, I'm not preaching)

I would avoid the Brightness/Contrast controls and use the levels controls. It takes more tinkering but does a much better job without blowing out highlights etc...

Lennymuir,

Yes, you're right. I used Sony Teleconverter in pics #3 & #4. I just got it and I was just testing, but quality was not yet good enough for A.net. Maybe I should purchase UV-filter since the pictures become often hazy in Finnish winter climate.

Thanks for advises and I try do something to those pictures. Well, the easiest thing is to scrap them and take new ones  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Ok,

I'll be frank, the rejection messages were spot on. Plus, the pictures aren't great so you need as much help as you can get from the picture itself, by resizing it down to 1024x7..., you'll have much more luck at that size... The quality isn't good enough to be any bigger.

1 and 3 need to be cropped, I think 3 is not good enough anyway and you have a sign in front of the nosewheel on 1. Picture 4 is good, just resize it to 1024x.. and sharpen it up a bit (maybe 120% on USM). Picture 2 (the sunrise picture) Is way too soft, I don't think you have any chance with that one.

Cheers

Dan
