Hi all

Not sure what I have been doing right recently but have been getting good scans from my old prints:

The above Northwest was a re-upload correcting a bad old scan.

All scanned with a flatbed HP6300C with the HP issued software.

So with a little patience, it can be done. Anyone out there have some nice print scans that they are proud of?

Cheers

Gary Watt

Very impressive Gary, I remember seing a few scanned prints from your LHR trip in summer 2001 and was suprised how good they looked.

As for dumping your D30? Just remember the pounds spent getting your prints developed before scanning them  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

I do have some nice prints yes Gary, as for scans of them that I am proud of?  Insane

Gary,

Don't get your kilt in a twist  Smile

I deny any use of a 'brick' at the end of runway 26L at Gatwick

...anyway

why do you ask? You coming down soon and think you may need it?  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

I Hope! You upload some older Scottish stuff soon. The quality is very good.

It's so funny how spotters improvise in making things to stand on or see aircraft. Are you a shortie Ben?

Well before slides and digital I was a print scanner...with varying degrees of success.

This would have to qualify as my greatest success...my most viewed picture in the database...scanned from a print. Kodak Royal Gold 100 ASA.

I wish I had some to share ... but I don't. Crap prints from the processors are what got me started down this digital route some years ago.

One day I was comparing what was on the print (big white sapce where the sky ought to be) with what was on the negative (lots of cloud detail). The previous week a work colleague had been rambling on about film scanners, so putting 2 & 2 together I came up with £400 (or there abouts) and went out and bought the just released HP Photosmart and an Epson Stylus 600.

As I've never thrown a negative away in my life (or for that matter, little else  Smile), I never needed to go back to my prints - in fact I recently gave away all my old aircraft prints to a young lad.

Now of course no negatives or slides either ... I sometimes miss having a tangible record of my work, but these days it is only a very few select shots that ever take material form!

Cheers,

Colin

Ben,

A bit like this... Wow!

Without starting a plug fest...I also have a rather nice UA 777 on here in much the same style...from the same LHR shoot back in 2000 (crikey...was it that long ago!!!).

Cheers,
Dean

Gary, BTW all my 606 pictures on airliners.net are scans from prints, most were taken with a Canon AE-1 and Kodak Gold 100 film.

Thanks to Johan and the crew of airliners.net for this amazing site.
