How Does Canon Camera Focus

I have read a lot of topics on one canon lens has a faster focus than another. I am under the impression that canon lenses focus is controled by the camera. Am I right about this?

I am looking at the 10d, and I have a Sigma 170-500mm lens will it focus faster on the 10d because it has been reported that the 10d has alot faster focus than any other digatal camera.

The amount of focus adjustment is controled by the camera. It has a senser which measures the amount needed through the lens (TTL).

The lens has the motors which actually move the lense into that focus position. So it depends on the camera wether or not a point is picked, and it depends on the lens how fast it actually gets there...

10d has alot faster focus than any other digatal camera - I think that statement needs qualifying ... it is faster than the D30/D60, and probably the D100. A 1Ds or 1D will leave it standing! It is basically the same system as Canon's mid-range EOS 30.
