Well.

I see that I just lost ALOT of images in the upload que due to some kind of technical issue.

Many of them waiting for weeks and weeks.

I don't know what to say... That was alot of work.

Is the problem going to be fixed?

Or is it possible this process will repeat itself given the size of the que?

Tom

SITE ADMIN

I am very sorry Tom, it seems quite a few photos were lost due to a recent storage disk issue. I have fixed the problem and will work hard to see to that it doesn't happen again. I understand your frustration, uploading is time consuming. I urge you to re-upload though, we will do our outmost to screen the photos quickly.

Thank you,
Johan

Johan, Your quick response here is very appreciated.

I understand that things will go wrong sometimes; but thank you for all the things that generally go right.

Dang.. I knew something was wrong before when I couldn't access my photos through their links.

Before this thread was posted, I decided to reupload but only half-way since the photos are still listed in the photo stats as being in HQ. Will these images match the information or was the information wiped out as well? Hopefully that makes sense..

Yeah, it is frustrating, but let's just reupload and hope for the best - I had my long-anticipated An-124 not go through due to the issues, and I reuploaded it. Now waiting...

What is the most irritating is that shots that has previously 2 votes for yes, uploaded now again with a lot of efforts are disrespectfully rejected for any reason, one by one.

Is this what you all got?

I just lost 25pics that have been in the HQ queue for 3 weeks, extremely frustrating

Hello, I want to contribute this posting,

had my 20 pics in the HQ queue also for 3 weeks, and they all got lost.
It took me some hours to upload them, and i'm really pissed of now  Sad

if we upload them again, do we get a faster screening or also have to wait 3 weeks to get an "error-message"?

Yeah - I got the same message - I lost 11 images via this route. Good news I had quite a few accepted - within the hour of upload today - Hats off to the screeners - thank you very much - you made my day !!!

I'll take my time and reupload the lost shots. They say the average life span is around 70 or so years - so I believe I have time - hopefully...  Smile

I'M FLOORED.

I read this thread last night and I wake up this morning to find all 9 of my images rejected because of the same reason as Planeboy.

I do not accept this, why should I spend more of MY time????? I'm going to do it only because I support this site ...

If your filename seems OK then it's probably our
problem and we ask that you accept our apologies and please try to
upload the shot again.

^Not the best apology I have heard.

I will re-upload and hope not to wait another two weeks for my photos to be screend.

Johan and crew, I appreciate your attention.

Sh!t happens - no-one is happy about this, esp. the screeners - we've all lost a lot of time the last few days trying to work around this problem. I also think Johan has better things to do right now than write everyone a personal apology.

Given the size, scope and complexity of the A.net system balanced against it's budget and support staff size, I think the availability of this site and mean time between failures is pretty good. Making the site failure-free would be very expensive indeed.

Personally I anticipate failures, so keep upload versions of my images on hand until my uploads have been processed. I also try not to let too many of my images sit in the queue at any one time - I upload a few, wait till those are dealt with, then upload some more. If anything goes wrong, I only have perhaps 10-20 to resubmit.

Cheers,

Colin

I had 9 photos in the queue ... I have been a long time uploader and have never submitted more than 10-15 at a time after hearing other people's experiences.

I don't expect a personal apology from Johan, I guess I should have precised that ... but I also don't expect my photos to wait in the queue 2 weeks again because of an error I did not make.

Respectfully.

I lost 20 of my pictures who were in the HQ.

Reuploaded them today, took me a while, and I'm interested if they all go in the HQ again ... if not, it would surprise me...

Can't the pics of the photographers who lost their ones get screened earlier?
This would be more than an apology.

Cmon Colin, a mirrored hard disk RAID array is hardly expensive.

That basically means if a hard drive fails, there is at least one other with exactly the same content in the system which erases the possibility of data loss.

Steve.

airliners.net is not a commercial organisation raking in huge profits from which to purchase the latest state-of-the-art hardware, Even if the problems were caused by a hard drive failure, which from my understanding they weren't, expensive or not its still money, something that we non-first class members do not contribute to this site.

Guys

Johan has already stated the reasons.

Nothing else can be done so carrying on moaning will not accomplish anything.

As Andy mentioned, this website is not commercial organisation. Shit happens and we have to live with it.

Hmm, not a commercial organisation.

So the ad banners/first class membership generates no profit ?

Also, the dig at my lack of first-class membership just went straight over my head Andy. I don't feel I would benefit from being a first class member hence my lack of subscription.

Cost of a RAID array is around the €250-€300. An investment not a cost, and one I am surprised was not in place.

it seems quite a few photos were lost due to a recent storage disk issue

This seems to point to a hard disk issue, no?

Anyhow, as Gary mentioned, Shit happens.

Move on...

Steve.

Some will take this the wrong way, but, it amazes me how some people demand so much from a site they contribute $0 dollars to.

As Johan said, we are sorry it occurred.

Being that this thread has been answered as to what happened, I am archiving it.
