Hi all

Just an update for all you photographers, digital or non digital.

http://www.digitalfocus.net/sections/reviews/SpeckGrabber/SpeckGrabber.htm

I used mine at the weekend and an invaluable piece of equipment.

Cheers

Thanks for the tip Gary. I've been looking for a product like this.

I bought some Sensor Swabs to clean the dust off my 10D but in the end there was that much it went back for replacement. At £50 for 12 they aren't cheap either for something that shouldn't be used that often!

Can you buy this in the UK?

Regards

Yep, I got mine in the UK but cannot remember from where.

A quick search will find a stockist.

Been lucky with my D30 and no dust but I did get a small hair on the sensor and the grabber worked great. The smallest of dist can bee seen on the sensor if held up to daylight and resting your hand on the camera while using the grabber is good. Rather then use the whole of the rubber pad at the end, I just use the corner and it seems to attract the dust to the tip.

Cheers

I didn't have one minutes worth of agro with the D60, which Tony S has now got. 10D lasted 200 frames then got sent back. Still they sent a 'no-dust' version as replacement.  Smile

UK stockist (also for the Sensor Swabs): http://www.crownphoto.co.uk

Gary's tip for using the edge is a good one. If you press the SpeckGrabber down onto the sensor (in my case, a piece of dust would not budge otherwise), then you get left with a little mark on the sensor where it contacted the surface - nothing permanent, but annoying nonetheless. I then had to use a Sensor Swab to clean the contact patch! This is easily avoided by not pushing down hard with the SpeckGrabber.

Just ordered mine - I have the Sensor Swab solution, but that's not something I enjoy using and a good blower which covers most situations. The Speck grabber will fill in the gap for situations when I have a relatively clean sensor but just one stubborn dust speck.

On blowers - the best one I've found is the bulb from a long manual remote shutter release - it's both quite powerful and has a very fine tip.

Cheers,

Colin
