The problem - I've just had to take my lens in for repair and they've informed me it will take 4 weeks!!
Basically this has made me realise it would be a good idea to have a back-up for periods like this.
The camera is a Canon 10D and my current longer lens (in repair) is the Canon 75-300mm IS and I also have a smaller 35-80 mm.
Been looking at a few lenses but the one above caught my eye, as a back-up it would be able to cover both of my lenses I have at the minute in case I get another problem and is not really expensive at just above £200, about the price I'd like to pay for my 'secondary lens'.
Problem is that it covers a big range and I'm not sure how good the quality would be, cheap price kind of adds to my doubt.
Has anyone used this lens (especially on a Canon)? Would I be able to get good quality shots? Any other lenses that would be recommended?

Dan,
Go to the store, slap one on and take some shots. It will be fine for general "snapshots" but I doubt you will enjoy it as much as your other lens.

Be prepared to get alot of vigneting(spl?) at anything higher than 260mm with this lens.
