I had mentioned the construction on the "Hill" was still on going after my last trip to LAX, but I forgot to put the snapshot I took of it up. Everyone was right, very bad shooting from there this time of year, but I had to see for myself.
As you can see, the fence and construction trailer are in place, but no work on the actual deck has been done as someone said was going to be built. This was taken on June 1st, so it probably has had some more progress. I wish they could do something with the power poles!
I did however meet a fellow A.netter, Philippe Bleus from Belgium, and we spent an enjoyable afternoon on the North side of the field telling stories, avoiding the police, and I shot my first Virgin's!

Great shots Jeff, I love em'! Isn't it cool to meet fellow a.neters? I thought it was cool to meet Del Laughery at MSP. He was visiting from Hartford, CT, man you can just talk about everything for hours. I had tons to say, I don't know much people that like planes around MSP, so when I meet someone, man do I have a lot to talk about!

It's a pity I missed you that week. But Philippe told me all about your time shooting on the north side of the 24's. We also spent some time at the Parking Spot on Friday, but got asked to leave. I guess the LAPD is putting pressure on them.
I've also heard that the Imperial Hill viewing deck will be completed by August, let's hope so. But even if the lighting isn't that great at this time of the year, it is still a wonderful place to visit.

there was talk of both the In and Out burger and some parking garage being good, but I disagree about the burger stand and have never been to the garage. Do a search in this forum and you should be able to find the posts.

In and Out is good for viewing, but not the best for photos since you're basically shooting the bottom of the planes landing on Runway 24. A new long term parking garage called the Parking Spot just opened behind the In and Out. In theory, this garage is great for evening photography because from the top floor you're closer to eye-level with the arriving planes. I shot from there a few weeks ago and wasn't bothered, but I have some friends who were not so lucky (even though they parked their car there). Sadly, it may be another victim of aviation paranoia but it might be worth a try.
You can also try shooting from Westchester Parkway on the north side. The area around the Lincoln underpass is the best. You have to contend with some lightposts, but in the late evening in the summer, the lighting is good here.
