I have dropped the rebel2k idea as i want to invest my money on something new, durable and trustworthy. Does anyone own one of these cameras. How do you find them and which one do you suggest? Do you have any offers in mind? (body only as i own an EF 28-135 USM IS.)

I'd go with the standard Elan 7E, you don't really need to pay $100 more for the Elan IIE with the additional features that you might won't be using.
Also, if you're planning on selling your camera, try www.ebay.com or maybe place an ad in this forum. Someone in this forum might be interested in your camera.
Good luck, I was trying of getting me a Canon Elan 7E, but I know I didn't have the money, so I bought me a very awesome Nikon N65 plus a 75-300mm lens for $660. I was sure better then my old camera.

The 7E is the IIE's replacement. I bought my IIE when they first came out in '96 and it has been absolutely trouble-free. I recently went to my local camera store to check out the 7/7E and it looks great. It is a bit smaller and lighter than the II but actually more durable because they use more metal in the body. I also like the black finish. (The chrome piece on my IIE's pop up flash has a nice scratch in it) If I had a couple of hundred bucks to blow right now I'd trade in my IIE for a 7 in a heartbeat.
If you're looking to save a few bucks, go for the 7. I don't use the eye-controlled focus that much and I'll probably buy it over the 7E if and when I trade in my IIE.

Exactly..i have the Elan 7..the only difference between the 7/7E is the eye controll, which i truly dont think you'd be using hardly ever..the Elan 7 have a feature where youd just have to use the cursor buttons on the back to choose what part you want in focuss, so the eye controll isnt a must. But if your only into aviation photo you really dont need that.

The difference between the price of the 7 and 7E isn't that much. Anyway, don't you ever use eye control? Isn't it fast enough? Does 7 have continuous focusing for moving objects?

I have never used the eye controll because I dont have the 7e =) but i've never seen the need for it..and yes the Elan 7 has 3 modes of AF..and its quite good..i always just keep it on AI servo..which is the continuous focuss for moving objects.

They're right about the pop-up flash being a bit weak. It's ok as a fill flash for cockpit shots and for general indoor snapshots, but that's about it. Since I shoot almost exclusively outdoors on sunny days, it's not that big a deal.
