I have been visiting this web site for awhile now. I have been photographing airliners since the early 1990s. I started out on print film and a 35mm SLR. Nothing fancy, 35-80mm lens and a 75-300mm lens. As I got more into my hobby, I started sending in some photos to some magazines. Low and behold, some were actually printed!!! Then I switched to slide film, and got a better 35mm SLR. Life was good. While on my honeymoon in Tahiti, my 35mm SLRs began giving me some problems, then the lenses started acting up. Fed up with photo processing and such, I got a C2100 digital camera. I loved the fact that I could look at the pics instatly, but hated trying to shoot anything moving(including my basset hound!!!). Fast forward to about a month ago. I really wanted to get another "real" camera, so I got a 10D, a new 75-300IS lens........life again was good.(I've only gone spotting with it once, but can already tell). The camera is fast, and the only way you can tell it is not a film camera is by the CF card!!!! I really feel like I won't have to get anything for awhile(L glass would be nice but I'm poor!!!). Well here is the problem........I have ALOT of slides and prints that I would love to share with people on this site. I have a GREAT camera and since I work for an airline, I can go to places all over and get some cool shots. HOWEVER, I really don't even attempt to upload anything as I am quite dissatisfied with my results in post-processing!!!!! I have tried PSP 7 and various versions of Photoshop.........and to me, my pics look like CRAP!!!!! I am constantly astounded at the quality of pics here!!! I have talked to many of you about this but still cannot get it right!!!!! I'm just losing something. Today I scanned five slides from China and HKG-Kai-Tak, most were views/angles/subjects not on this site. But after USM, resizing, etc they look HORRIBLE!!!!! I NEED HELP!!! TALK TO ME LIKE YOU ARE TALKING TO A CHILD BECAUSE I HAVEN'T GOT A CLUE!!!! I can take a good pic.....it just gets BAD in the tweaking stages!!!!

Hi Steve,

Why not post some pre and post processing examples and maybe I or one of the other regular contributors to this forum can help you?

Steve - I think we need to separate the scanning process from subsequent work in PS. If your scanning technique is poor, post processing isn't the answer.

How do you scan? What scanner? Can you post an example of an unprocessed scan?

Once we get the scan side sorted, we'll quickly get you up to speed on the post processing.
