Gee guys, thanks again. And yes Joe, it is Canon!  Big thumbs up

That one's been kicking around on my hard drive for three months now. I do that sometimes - process a photo, think "nah..." and leave it for ages and finally decide to upload it, usually very late of an evening after I've had one too many beers - "f*** it, that one looks OK, I'll upload it"! The photo would have been even better it ejazz was the driver!

The photo was taken at one of the best airports in the world for photos... LAS. Viewing park on Sunset is just great. Rent an SUV and stand on the roof, or rent a pickup and buy a set of ladders from Home Depot. Either way, you're 6 feet from the fence so no aggro from the local law enforcement. And the viewpoint is just abeam the touchdown point, meaning you can shoot these seriously front on approach shots over the fence without getting the underneath views that characterise places like Myrtle Avenue at LHR. The other good thing is that the short-final approaches are over a bright sandy area, and light reflected up from the bright sand means that you don't get dark undersides that often characterise approach shots.

Andy,

It took me a long while to become fan of yours, but it seems like lately, you've exploded and are getting some pretty damn amazing.

Getting all those America West schemes fromt he same angle clinched it. That's really amazing.

Rectum? Damn near KILLED him!

Good job Mr. Martin! You've got me looking forward to you newest uploads now and made a new fan.  Smile

Cheers

Yeah, great shots Andy! Those older LAS approach closeups immediately caught my eye back in the 'day- and the new SQ one was pretty sweet to see in the new uploads.

What focal length did you use? Its been a while since I've been to that spot, although I have nothing close to as good as those...

Thanks for all the nice comments guys...

Serge, the Sing picture (and the America Wests) are taken with a Canon 100-400 lens used at the 400 end (35mm equivalent 640mm), and then there's a bit of cropping too, so I'd guess the 35mm equivalent for a full frame image would be something like 800mm. I always love going to Las Vegas - one of my favourite airports, as well as being one seriously good city to visit!

Bloody great shot Andy.

Only managed a couple of Vegas flights before they were stopped and both times were night arrivals so you were lucky.

Just don't go using this shot as a benchmark when you're screening as I'll give up uploading then!

Cheers
