Hi Guys

Is anyone going to be around for some spotting this week from Wednesday at Heathrow. Am I right in saying the viewing deck is still closed?

Thanks
Julian

Hi Julian

You never get further north than LHR do you!

Try stopping off at ABZ next time, heard SAA are starting a JoBurg to Aberdeen service with one of the wingletted 737's  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Cheers

Don't think the deck will be much use this week anyway - heat haze is gonna make shots across tarmac next to impossible.

Cheers,

Colin

Hey Gary

You got it wrong - SAA is starting a daily B707 flight to ABZ!

Maybe sometime we can meet half way.

Any suggestions on spots outside the perimeter?

Thanks
Julian

Could well be on westerlies, and if so they will be landing on 27L until 3pm each day until sunday. After 3pm they use 27R landing. If easterlies, 09L for 95% of movements coming in. Easterlies are not that easy, but I think its still a runner. Hope somebody can advise.

Myrtle Avenue is your best bet on westerly landings on 27L. You can either park in that street if in a car, or catch a free bus (any bus) from Central Area (ot T4) to Hatton Cross Underground station. From there its a five minute walk in a south westerly direction along the main road and you'll soon see a green.

Landing shots are just about all you can get, but if you have a really long lens it may be worth trying for some impressive shots of Jumbos after they're airborne. Hot weather means a long take off and a slow climb so maybe you can try for this. I think the playing fields of a local school in Bedfont Avenue (?) are OK for this on easterly take offs.

Try http://www.multimap.com for a local street map. That covers Aberdeen as well  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Julian,

I replied to your mail but I think that even in the evenings you could still have problems with heat haze across the tarmac if you are shooting through the fence on to 27R-we are expecting exceptionally hot weather this week so bear that in mind.

I (and others) will be at Birmingham on Wednesday and Manchester on Thursday if you really want to try somewhere a little less warm!

Should be using 9L for landings and 9R for takeoffs on Wednesday, still.

Matt,why the mass exodus northwards?

Well, if you can't stand the heat.......

Take a look through my pictures and try and find anything that is not either from LHR or my trip to AKL in March, I just fancy some variety-anyway I need Shaun to come with me to help teach me a few things about photography Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Spending Wednesday night sleeping on the floor at MAN had better be worth it.

But you might get a Tristar in the morning (9L-LDC) and maybe the odd 742.

Try T2.In the check-in area there is a route through to the shops with a couple of staircases.Follow them up and voila-the world's largest free sleeping area!
