Generally speaking AY's European service is good, intercontinental average.
The one A340 they have now is ex-Virgin, with small PTVs. They will get two? new 340s with PTVs next year.
I have found their onboard service rather good, nothing special though.
Food is served free also on European routes, no warm meals on E70, so I guess it will be the same on E90. Wine & Beer free, for drinks you have to pay something. The seat pitch is 32" in Y class.
On their flights to Asia they have mixed crew, also Asian FAs.
AY has a reputation to be very punctual, and HEL is a nice airport for transit.
The routing sounds like MAN-HEL-PVG or NRT, I wish your friend a good trip!
