Hi United905 ... is your trip in Economy or Business?? I've only had limited experience with AY, having flown in 2005 MIA-HEL-PVG both of course, MD11's (that was before the seasonal MIA flight became a 757 "leisure" service with a tech stop somewhere up with the polar bears). Both flights in Y-class. I have to say I was not impressed.
I found the crews of both flights rude and off-hand, the service almost non-existant, the catering really umm... minimalist, shall we say. On the PVG flight, which was full, the F/A's were happy for a lot of small children to run up and down the aisles for much of the night yelling & screaming , not even bothering to stop them when they sped off through the curtain into Biz class!
On the plus-side, an MD11 take off, even with a full pax load, is a great experience.

Unfortunately this pretty much sums it up for me for my AY long haul flights.
But then again, I think it's not that bad... which European airline you do get an occasional smile or a great service... not many!
Never in Business class but that should be much better... at least they get much praise for it!
I heard that the old VS A340 is in a horrible condition inside... at least it was when they first got it into operation this summer. Some of the tray tables didn't stay up and had to be duck taped closed etc. But knowing AY I'm sure these has been fixed by now!
