Hmmm... equipment should be so easy for you to find (have you tried their website? You should have seen it when you booked...) that I am not going to help you.

Services? Well, when I did a six hour trip from Phoenix to Anchorage in March, we were given nothing but soda and peanuts. The movie they showed was not appropriate for family viewing, so I wrote a letter of complaint. They sent me coupons for free beer on my next flight.
That kind of customer service attitude (what made them think that free beer coupons would win over a customer concerned about inappropriate movies?) has driven me away from US-West ever again.

Have a nice flight!!!

Depending on when you're going it will be either a 733 or 319. On the 319 you will have an inflight movie, the 733 nothing. Standard transportation, nothing special, but they will get you to the valley of the sun.

I flown one roundtrip with them DFW-PHX-SEA and SEA-LAS-DFW
The euqipment we had was a 733 and an A320.

It's a discount carrier, so don't expect much out of them, I was delayed by about 30 minutes both times.

You'll get your choice of a soft drink and that's about it.

True enough, but Am West would technically be AeroMéxico West...  rotfl

There are a lot of trip reports here - many have posted trips on their experiences with America West, including me and my landing from hell at MSP in June, 2005 (but it wasn't the airline's fault).

You will find a comfortable and well run airline. It appears that you will be on either an A320 or a CRJ-900. I have found both airplanes comfortable (make sure you have an aisle seat on the CRJ).

Average snacks...buy on board...maybe a movie...$5 headset rental.

You'll be comfortable. Have a great flight!!

No, CFCUQ, I was not impressed. Their Airbus wasn't very well appointed (ancient style lavatories), the seats weren't particularly comfortable (compared to United's A320s) stuff like that.

The flight crews were friendly enough though.

It wasn't horrible... though I am struggling to try to remember a less pleasant flying experience...

My expectations were simply higher for a flight of such duration. Not unpleasant, simply not pleasant. Know what I mean?

I have flown them over a dozen times in the past 4 years between PHX-SNA (also throw in an oddball trip to LA and one back from SNA via LAS). I have always enjoyed them. Those flights are only an hour max so all you get is a soda. Seats are plenty comfortable (i'm 6'0", 200lbs) and the service has always been good. I have even gone into the cockpit a few times and the pilots have been very friendly too. Boarding is very orderly and they have only been late once in all of those flights (Nav radio problem on the Diamondbacks 757, which is something like 19 years old). We took off an hour late but since the flight was originally supposed to be a A319 and then a 757 pulled up, we could care less! So I can't speak for long flights, but I would assume the service is just the same. I wouldn't pay much attention to those hyper-critical people, it's a fine airline and you shouldn't have any problems.

Free Beer? Now thats funny.

Dear America West: A movie you showed on flight had drug use and language and use of alcohol not appropriate for my young children.

Dear Customer: Sorry, Here have some free beer on your next unpleasant flight.

I flew them maybe a year ago from ORD. It went something like this...

ORD-LAS B757
LAS-HNL B757

On the way back it was

HNL-PHX B757
PHX-ORD A320

Not bad. You get what your money is worth. Seats are OK...IFE sucks. Soda and peanuts were offered. I think on the LAS-HNL and the HNL-PHX route they offered breakfast or lunch. That's about it.

Yeah, but I'm used to paying $800 round trips for 350 mile legs on the East Coast for one day meetings.

We now live in the PHX area and I now do round trips to LAX/etc. or LAS for $118-130. So, I don't mind HP/US's naked service. HP still seems a little amateurish in its gate and loading procedures, luggage takes longer than I'm used to, and tight gate use in PHX can make entire days' of flights get later and later throughout the day....but, that said, it's a good carrier for my needs. And, I like their clubs and the ability to get seat assignments that I want.

I'm flying STL-PHX-LAX-SEA/SEA-PHX-STL in a couple weeks in first class on US Airways operated by America West. The last time I flew America west was 1999 and that was economy. Does anyone know if I will get a meal. My STL-PHX flight leaves at 5pm and my SEA-PHX flight leaves at 8am. I'd expect dinner and breakfast. I hope the flights will be as good as United in first class, although I somewhat doubt that it will happen that way.

Based on my experience, I would say yes and no.

They had food for sale but they ran out of food before they got to 3/4 of the rows. Get a seat up front and you can buy food.

If you hate the fully booked jetBlue flights, you may prefer the half-emtpy HP planes.

Oops. You said first class. Nevermind. I was in coach.

Looks like you're out of luck. US/HP policy is for meals on flights over 3.5 hours. SEA-PHX is under 3 hours and STL-PHX is cleverly scheduled at 3:25 or 3:27 westbound, just enough to really make you mad.

Are they serious that they only give meals on flights over 3.5 hours? Ugh. There is a reason why I prefer United. They serve food on STL-DEN, which is half the length! Will I get anything? $900 for first class deserves me a meal in my opinion, although if I don't get a meal, at least they serve free booze...haha.

What movie could that be? Airlines are usually very strict when it comes to movie, but you can't always have G-rated movies. If you found an airline movie inappropriate I think you need to loosen up a little bit.

I have flown America West, now US Airways a number of times. Out of Tucson, avoid the 5:40 USX flight into PHX. It is almost always delayed and then a mad dash for the mainline flight. I had a 757 flight from PHX to SMF last month. That was a breath of fresh air from the usually crowded and cramped 737 service.
