I mean when you think of airlines which do not exist any more. Perhaps that's an airline which you never came across or which you watched a lot. For me the saddest thought is of a Canadian 744 at Kai Tak. Never saw it and will never see as both the airline and the airport are gone...

TWA and Eastern.
I grew up on Eastern, and they were a force on east coast. TWA was often the best service in the sky while they were flying, which is a legacy lost on American. They had the best looking livery when they went under as well. If you had told people 50 years ago that PanAm and TWA were going to some day be gone, I don't know if they would have believed you.

I miss Eastern for a number of reasons. Not the least of which, however, is all the perks that I used to get from my father being a Captain.
They were an awesome airline (while they were being run well) and a true pleasure to fly with.

Of the classic airlines I miss Eastern the most, just like some of the others on this thread. Nice livery, great fleet.
Of the newer airlines I would say I miss Reno Air the most. Great service and an MD-90 operator, my favorite narrow body.

I have to say it's Ansett Australia for me; they were a wonderful airline, so friendly and so nice to fly with. I have very happy memories of my (unfortunately very) few flights with them, back in 1993.

Dear Mowtoib:
Back in the 60's and 70's most int'l city pairs in North America were associated to two airlines at the most due to the severe regulations of those years.
For example:
MEX-LAX was always associaterd with MX & WA
MEX-MIA with AM & PA
MEX-JFK with AM & EA
MEX-ORD with MX & AA
MEX-SAT with MX & BN and so on...
Not only that I miss Western, Pan Am, Eastern and Braniff among others, but every time that I go to the cities they served out of MEX, I still feel that there is a missing part of these cities' personalities.
With the exception of AA, all other american carriers came to Mexico to either fill a gap left by all ill fated airline of the US, were the result of a merger that did not keep the original name, or recently began operations under new Mexico-US regulations.
From each of these old airlines I specially miss WA's 720s, PA's A300s, EA's L1011s and Braniff's multicolored fleet including their fying pumpkins (Orange colored 747s).
From the canadians I also miss CPAir with their great DC-8-63s which did the YVR-MEX route.
